If you want some testimony to the subject, check out my post about my recent crash on my Uly 2 weeks ago: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/639184.html?1309009836 Fortunately, it only hurts when I breathe. Or move. |

Anything needed to help get it back together? Sounds like healing time and a set of bars will do most of the repairs. |

Been there! When I crashed the X1 I had two broken shoulders, broken left collarbone, eight ribs, four spinal fractures, collapsed lung, banged up spleen, and some internal bleeding. Good news: Your still with us! Bike is repairable. You will heal mostly, and be riding again. The Uly is one tough MF'er! Bad news(for me): The collar bone never set / healed right, and still hurts when doing hard physical labor or trying to work out. So does left shoulder. Ribs take a real long time to heal. Sugestion (Not that I think your not doing this already.) - Do what the PT & OT tell you to do. Pain is good. I spent a month in the hospital, but was able to lift my arms when I left! Thanks for sharing your story. It's not if you will go down - you will - it's if you get back up and on! |

Whisper, Some folks would have quit the motorcycles after going through your painful ordeal. It's a testament to your intestinal fortitude that you got back on the horse. I've had a few get offs in my time but never have really been hurt but it still took some time to trust whatever bike I was riding at the time. Never did trust the Yamaha Venture Royale after it whipsawed me over the handlebars and slammed me into the cement at 45 mph just for hitting a hole in the pavement. I bought my Electraglide and sold that Venture and was glad I did. Venture had the opposite of a stiff frame. It's mass centralization was about tank high which made for a very top heavy bike. My mother-in-law has a 87' Venture Royal sitting in her garage that she said I could just take but I have no interest in the thing. Very nice looking though. |

Thanks EG. Just about every doctor, nurse, aids, etc., asked if I was going to ride again. Never thought twice about it. It took me until I was 32 and 11 months old before I could ride, wasn't going to stop after only 10 months! Wrecked Aug 24, got out of second hospital rehab unit Sep 22??, was going to buy an S3T when the shut down came, bought the Uly instead on Oct, 24. Happy Ending |

Very nice looking though. The mother-in-law or the bike? |

Been away for a couple weeks off line healing. I think I only need receommendations for new bars. I am fine with stock geometry with my bar risers, but imagine I can get a better deal (and not support H-D) buying aftermarket. I'll also need new grips, and likely need to replace my grip heater elements (at least the left side one). that and a turn signal lens is all I should need if I am not worried about the scrapes on the left side case and small ones on the flyscreen edge and windshield. The left case took most of the abuse, and that is why I had it on even though it was pretty much empty. |

Enough of the H-D bashing already. I'm on my way down to the H-D dealer to by some primary oil for the ULYs. Glad they carry it. |

It's not H-D bashing. It is simply my choice. I didn't like buying stuff from them BEFORE Buell was shut down. They didn't support Buell at the dealer worth a damn, so why should I support them? Of course, shutting down Buell didn't exactly help. Why buy overpriced handlebars from H-D, and then wait for them to get them in? Plenty available in stock from the ATV aftermarket. More practical choice then any bashing. |
