Alright guys there are to many stator threads to choose from. So i'll just add to the pile. My custom rewind stator that fried at 700 miles is being rewound. Gary apologized and said he messed up by using smaller gauge wire (smaller wire creates more resistance which also means more heat) He said he is going to rewind it with wire thats a half size bigger than the original and that this should cure it. We will find out next week!

Well after a year of owning this bike and less than 5000 miles I have had the clutch fluid leak, coolant leak, been stranded by the broken wire in the ignition switch and today it looks like I have joined the stator failure club, I am nearly 50 years old and this is the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned, and when I was young I owned some really knackered, old and high mileage bikes and cars, I can get on my six year old Sportster and ride without a second thought, any distance, any time, can not even trust this Buell to leave the city limits. I am going to ask HD to fit the 08 stator and rotor and if not the bike will be going back and I will be riding Jap or Euro from now on. This whole situation is getting seriously stupid.

Patience is a virtue. Running short on virtue? Me too!

I believe the 1125 issues will eventually be resolved. The S1 was that way, it took a couple of years to sort things out.

Thanks to posplayr I found out that series regulators are better than shunt and that stators that burn up need heavier wire. Custom Rewind has declared they will be going up in wire size on all future builds.

A former Buell exec Steve Anderson stated that the new 1190 stator rotor had oil jets and would be a popular retrofit.

Things are moving forward, just not as fast as some would like.

Stimbrell I hear ya. Yes these Buell's come with a lot of quirks and stuff that shouldnt be happening this soon anyway. Depending on what model of Jap or Euro they too have a lot of issues right now. Take Honda for instance there are a lot of people with CBR1000rr that are going through ring seals. Honda doesnt want to acknowledge the flaw because they feel well there "Honda" the most reliable maker of motorcycles on the road. That flaw should be a recall but they are quietly doing what Harley decided to do with our Buell's just warranty the parts with a band aid.

Crabby,
Your post is completely useless.

Why do so many people feel the need to post about how "perfect" their bikes are in threads about people having issues.

This thread is SUPPOSED to be about Georgehitch working WITH Custom Rewind to provide a solution for 09 1125 owners experiencing stator failure.

This is a very REAL problem, and the fact that Crabby's bike doesn't have it is a complete waste of time.

George,
Thanks for working with Gary to help the Buell community. The 100+ people actively on the board with stator issues GREATLY appreciate both yours and his efforts.

I knew something would be coming down the pipe for 1125 support. Good because I am getting sick of Harley in all facets.

thanks George! No issues so far, but paying attention for when it pops up.

another cool thing i saw recently was one Badweb'er doing a coating on the stator cover that is a "heat dispersant". I just figure every little bit helps!

Can't wait for 1190 "fixes" to be available locally - at my HD dealer or other... that's where my bike is going.

Oldog - hopefully my HD will be EB R 1190 dealer... we'll see.

Yeah i don't expect much from HD itself, but have a pretty good dealership. If they become a dealer for the 1190's hopefully i'll be able to get the 1190 stator w/ oil jets like mentioned above.

I'll hunt down a local 1190 dealer when they pop up - one way or the other.

Oddly enough or not, it never crossed my mind that a Harley dealership would even consider being an Erik Buell Racing shop. Does make you wonder what Erik's reaction to the idea would be. Could go either way I'd think.

Just thoughly tested my custom rewind stator and f00 regulator yesterday.
I am happy to report 731 miles in 14.5 hours and still charging at 14.0.
I have 3500 miles total since the valve job rewind and regulator.
in all sorts of riding condtions and seen the on board temp read over 120 sitting at stop lights during the trek yesterday

Funny...do a search, I suggested oil spray on the stator windings about a year or so ago...everyone thought I was nuts...or more properly, just ignored...!

Apparently...not such a bad idea after all....!

What surprises me most is that a stator is ancient technology, it shouldn't be that hard to get right, the first time.

These aren't touring or police bikes with heavy electrical demands

Not pointing fingers, I could point to problems with the homes I've owned - hell, we've been building homes for 6000 years, and we still build in latent defects

Something like the stator should be a no brainer. Is the 1125 engine that different from the Rotax V990? Seems like Rotax used a lot of the V990 in designing the 1125. Nobody just reinvents the wheel from scratch today

Turns out, the RSVR stator is notorious for failing, too.

The parallels are uncanny: http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php? t=186591

Some of 'em even mention the clutch issue...

The reason my first custom rewind stator fried was because they downsized the wire smaller wire creates more resistance which means more heat. This one I just got is using wiring thats larger than the oem stator. I should finally have the perfect stator!

Well guys I majorly screwed up. Well not me my dad but i didn't double check. We changed the stator last night and it was dark outside he accidentally soldered two stator wires together and I'm pretty sure it fried that stator. My only hope was that it burned the wires going into the stator before ruining it. I will do ANOTHER tear down today to assess the damages...

That's unfortunate - don't be too hard on your Dad, he's probably beating himself up enough for both of you.

Wish my Dad was still around to help me with the bikes, I envy you that.

Heck, I'd even let him mess up from time to time just to have him back.

"Well guys I majorly screwed up. Well not me my dad but i didn't double check. We changed the stator last night and it was dark outside he accidentally soldered two stator wires together"

Why was Solder involved with replacing the Stator? Did you try to do a 'Sub-Harness' so that you didn't have to fish it thru the frame and plastic guide?
