I might do a magnaflow modded muffler later if you guys want something along that line. The longest oval custom shells I can get are only 12" long, so the magnaflow (at 14" long) option will probably be quieter. I will have to have the shells custom rolled to either 7" or 7.5" wide, which means I may have to pay for setup and get a minimum of 10-20 done at a time. I don't mind doing it either way. I originally intended to try the magnaflow on the 1125, but it just wouldn't look right on it with that long of a muffler.
Yes...slightly louder than stock and you will get my order ! Drummer, Spec Ops etc are all nice but just too loud for me. Look at the prices used banged up Buell race mufflers bring on Ebay. The Buell race pipe has a very nice sound without rattling windows or your brains. Get close to that and you'll have a winner.
Percyco -- I'll build one next week and see if I can get some video and possibly another dyno run to get some performance numbers from it. Materials are on order, so it's just a matter of time now.
Dean...I'm about to pull the trigger on a stainless exhaust for my 12scg(race pipe now). I like to run my chin fairing, and am not a big fan of the current brackets that are available...would you consider a fairing mount option!
I really hadn't planned on offering a bracket for this. All I've heard about any aftermarket ones is that they all break at some point. I'm not sure I can really do any better at that since the XB's vibrate like crazy as it is.
I'll look into it, but for right now, I don't have any real plans for brackets. I might make one custom set for Cory since he's been kind enough to loan me his wife's scoot, but beyond that, I dunno.
I got ya.. shucks... I'm hoping someone will come up with an affordable pipe like this with the mounts etc. Anyone know which exhaust this is? usa made?
Terry, I think Arctic9r means the brackets as we see them installed on Albert666's exhaust above... My question for you, Albert666(alan)... would you sell the ss brackets alone?
From what I understand they just want some brackets to mount the chin fairing and the Jardine brackets will do just that. Quite possibly eliminating having to remove the chin fairing when you pull the exhaust.
I'm not 100% happy with the quality of the welds on one of the magnaflow 11148 mufflers I got today. I'm thinking they might have used a mig welder to do these.
What sucks about using these is lack of control over the welds. Lots of splatter on the shell and endcaps. It can be ground off and smoothed down, but it just makes for extra work.
Internal cores, they're just smashed together rather than blended. I guess this will need fixed before I do much else to them.
We shall see how it turns out this weekend I think.
Hmmm..wow, I can see a few "man hours" involved bringing that example up to snuff.. just doesn't look "street rod, or other" quality out of the box to me..
I smoothed down the insides so it will flow a little better, it looked a little rough in there. It's not a perfect knife edge, but it's a lot better than it was. I still need to sort out the rear spacing, it's got a bit of a gap between the stock bracket and the muffler body. I'm also thinking this might be 409 stainless, I will have to call magnaflow to verify what it is. If it is 409, then I'd probably recommend roughing it up on the surface and shooting it with a coat of high temp black paint to cover all the rough welds and splatter they got all over it. If it's 304, then cleaning it and polishing it would be the best option.
I guess in it's current form, raw and somewhat rough, $425 + shipping. It didn't take all day, but it's not 100% finished just yet. I do have the mid-pipe sorted out pretty nicely and it will work with the other setup now. I also need to make a short bracket to weld onto the mid-pipe for support. It's almost ready to go though.
I will sell a few of these, I bought 2 for now just to play with and it turned out pretty decent so far. I prefer to do my own thing, but it costs a little more to do it. Materials costs are at least double what it is for building one of these. I know how I want to build it and it will be similar to this, but just a tad louder. I'm thinking for the full custom one, between $550-600 and it will definitely polish up very nicely. These magnaflow shells are pretty rough.
This one is probably the quietest one I've built yet. It's fairly mellow at idle in the garage, I haven't taken it out and the weather is probably going to take a turn for the worse here tonight.
One last thing, if I do the hand crafted oval shell, the performance gains will be pretty much identical to the first one I made with the 2 round shells. Figure a 9-10% gain in both hp and torque. I have no idea what the magnaflow pipe will show.
