I posted some questions to Erik Buell Racing concerning what race ECM I should get. Just as an FYI to those considering a purchase, here are the questions and their response. Questions: I have a 2009 XB12XT with stock exhaust and want to get an Erik Buell Racing race ECM now. I do plan on getting a drummer exhaust later next year. Part number Y0185.10AH states that it can be used with stock exhaust or with race exhaust and hi flow air filter Part number Y0166.10AH states that it can be used with the drummer exhaust and hi flow air filter My questions are: 1. Will the Y0185.10AH adapt to the drummer exhaust when I add it later? 2. Would the Y0166.10AH be a better choice when using a drummer exhaust? 3. Will the Y0166.10AH work with the stock exhaust (and stock air filter) until I add the drummer exhaust? ********************* Response: Y0185.10AH is for a stock exhaust, not a race exhaust. It also will work with a free flowing air filter and stock exhaust. There is an editing problem on our site. Y0166.10AH is for a Drummer. If you get the Y0185.10AH race ECM for track day use with a stock exhaust and later decide to get a Drummer exhaust, you can send back our race ECM and have it recalibrated to the Y0166.10AH calibration for the Drummer. The charge for this is $25 plus $10 shipping for the first year after purchase. Thank you, Tech Support Erik Buell Racing |

A race exhaust won't fit with a Uly because the sidestand hits the tip. Just a bit of useless information that may be useful to someone. IMO if you are going to get a Drummer soon get one with a Drummer tune and with the the actuator enabled but no warning for actuator failure. The AFV will probably scale to suit and if it doesn't just run the stock ECM until you get the Drummer. |

I feel special for gaining access to this thread. If you know you're going to get a drummer, why not wait and do the muffler and ECM at the same time? |

I bet this guy would disagree! They fit, just need a bit of clearancing.. |

A friend shortened his sidestand to fit. The bike is a bit lower on the sidestand but it works. If you looked at the listing for the old race ECM the Uly wasn't included, and that was because the tune was for the race muffler and the race muffler didn't fit the Uly. |

Yeah, they never sold the "for" the Uly, but all it takes is to notch the tip just a bit. That's my bike up there BTW, before it got a Drummer SS, and with the previous owner riding it! |

Get the ecm now for the stock exhaust. My money is on you never changing a thing after that! I pulled my drummer and installed the stocker, kept the k&n, added the ebr computer (with muffler control)...and it runs better this way than it ever did before (the drummer was run with an old accessory "race" ecm). And, my ears don't ring after a long ride! Nothing against Kevin or his pipes, but 800 mile days are a bit much with anything louder than stock. To me anyway. Maybe I'm "too old" now! |

I love the Drummer sound; I grew up on cammed smallblock Mopars and SuperTurbo mufflers. I like me some rumble. I *do* wear earplugs on longer rides. But, I'd rather enjoy loonng rides than have the sound. My tubers have race mufflers on 'em. They're enough for me. The Uly...I keep tame so I can ride for days. And days.

I was just wondering about the question of a race, it seems to come up a lot in all/other forums, setup on a Uly or other XBs for that matter. Its just a thought given what the bikes are and do not quite understand what people are trying for. A nice sound and a smooth running engine is the best you can hope for with the XBs I would say. The XBs will out handle any bike on the road but not on top end speed. Thats what the CR/Rs were made for because the old iron lump was past its best and Erik knew it. Simple logic. |

I wear ear plugs on every ride, regardless of the bike I'm on and the exhaust. The wind noise alone on a fairingless bike is enough to cause hearing damage. proper ear protection does not block all sounds, only reduces it. For example, my ear plugs are 26db plugs- they reduce levels by 26db. They make our in helmet communicators MUCH easier to hear as well. with the Drummer SS,now I hear my motor a bit as well! |

I'm married and prefer NOT to hear all that well - hence, my refusal to wear ear plugs! . |

Johnboy - in that case, maybe you could get a set of flesh colored ones, and just leave the earplugs in... |
