Hello fellow originals. I read these reliability posts about Buells...and the constant search for bad points of ownership...all that crap. And so I ask you...Whats the BEST part of owning a Buell??? For me, its that shake of the twin, metal enough to know its American, but with a growl to let you know that its not in any way soft. Its also the package....pure original, no following. And of course, the RIDE FRICKIN ROCKS. And thats whats I have to say about that. Jack I feel better now. |

Saturday I let a good friend, ace mechanic & one of the fastest street riders I know, try out my M2. He was back in a short 20 minutes, complained about the tranny, (It works for me!) Then launched into a rambling backhanded praise of the Buell. "Clutch is about 4 lbs. too heavy..(pause) I guess it has to be to take the torque..." "Going down (batf%^k crazy hill) road, I thought I was doing about 65, looked down & was over 100" "I really did keep the front wheel down like you asked, except once..." I interrupt "the 1st / 2nd shift, right?" He continues ".. every time I shift to 2nd quick it comes up, right! I have to back off or it just will keep coming up, ya know" "Most impressive big bike I ever rode, the confidence, ya know, 2 minutes & you got a good feel, 4 and you're just sure the corners are ok, confident, you know it, when the corner tightens & you know it will go more, just at will.." "Oh, I've been more impressed with smaller bikes, like my 600.. but big bikes, the Buell, my 1000 chattered in hard braking, but yours, almost too much brakes, almost too tight suspension." I think I can get him into a used XB9. |

Best part of owning a Buell for me was..it forced me to get a truck so I could haul it from dealer to dealer. I love my truck |

chainsaw, how are you getting 63 mpg? I have the same issue with my gas tank though. when the low fuel light comes on and I fill it up Im putting 2.5 gallons in it. so I am using 2.5 gallons every 122 miles. 122/2.5 =48 Im not really complaining. I was just wondering out loud |

Mookie, you're seeing average gas mileage for a XB9R. I get right about 50 no matter what, sometimes 1-2 less, sometimes 1-2 more. The low fuel light on mine consistently comes on after only ~2.7 gallons have been used, but there's no way I've still got a gallon left in there. Bryan |

This M2 does not wheelie. Maybe it is altitude or something. It is a pleasant, competent ride, never any surprises. Now if only I could stop chasing oil leaks. |

I like my Buell just because. The damm thing does everything I want a bike to do very well. A good friend of mine has an old Honda and next year plans on a new bike so of course I am trying to sway him to the Buell - any Buell. Knowing he is seriously looking at a Yamaha I let him take the S1 to ride across town to pick something up from his house. Now its a 5 minute ride but he is gone for 20 minutes and when he getss back all he does is smile and look at the bike. Then tells me how much fun it is to ride. He commented that the handling is almost telepathic - I laughed and told him he should try an XB where the handling is better again. I think I have swayed another to the dark side. Damm I love my S1!!!! |

The best part? I don't know. For me it's a combination of the bike, the ride, the people, the sound and the passion! Ride to the edge! Dave Iowa HD/Buell (Buell Cycle Center) |

Mookie: Try doing the speed limit once in a while! Highway riding between 65 and 75mph gets me 60+mpg. 110mph gets me 39mpg. "Spirited" mountain riding gets me 50+mpg. In town stop and go traffic 47-49mpg. All stock set up. I have a calculator velcroed to my fuse box and I check the mileage every fillup. Not like I sit in front of my computer and make stuff up! Did I mention I can go back and forth to work for a WEEK on a GALLON of GAS on this thing? UP YOURS O.P.E.C.! |

Daves counted the change in my pocket with his remarks. The ride, sound (I love the sound,) people you will meet on your Buell. I wish I would have come over to the darkside much sooner. I've sure pissed away a lot of money on parking lot jewelry on my big twins. I hope I don't catch Bads1 disease and start dressing up Buells -- Just kidding Bads1 I love what you did with that ride! |

hehe big daddy. I do the speed limit most of the time and 47-49 sounds about right for going back and forth to work. I was kinda curious because it seemed that for the first tank or 2 i got about 20-30 more miles out of it. I think you have answered this for me as for the first couple of tanks of gas I was getting used to the bike and taking it easy.

Who cares about fuel milage!!!!! I don't ride the S1 for fuel economy - if I wanted economy I'd get a scooter!!!!!!Wouldn't that be funny my big ass on a scooter, you would need a 2X4 to remove it when I'd get off. Just ride the damm thing!! I know that I ride my bike with a bit more spirit than most others around here and the milage is the shits. But thats part of the fun of owning a Buell, they are loud, crude and just oozing with character and personality. Sometimes a little too much but the hell with it - I enjoy my S1 and F*&K all those that don't. edited by Newfie_Buell on September 24, 2003 |

Still on break in, but I am getting about 60 mpg on the XB. What is great about a tuber Buell is that if it gets knocked over, it costs you $40 or so, and you can fix it yourself. I doubt it is the same with the XB which worries me, but I will cross that bridge if I reach it. I really never touched a wrench to any motor vehicle before but do most of my own maintenance, changed rocker box gaskets and am looking at opening up the primary and fixing the stator if it proves to be dead. God knows if I will be successful though. |

I have had 47mpg during break in so far, but that included a lot of highway , however as Newfie says who cares...to me its a big boys toy..I didn't buy it as a commuter / work bike..although obviously for some people it may be there only transport |

Or my kids and their friends line up on the sidewalk and wave their hands over their heads to get me to wheelie up the street. |

I love my Buell cause of i's tourqe, attitude, looks, sound, following, brother and sisterhood, The friends I made, the friends I will make, the looks I get, the fact that even though all of us have something in common all of us are different in every sense! |
