It's yours, $69.

Al, yes my bike is down, but I'm not in a HUGE rush to get the new hanger. I have the old bracket being welded back together, which I can use if needed, and I'm headed out on vacation Saturday, so I won't be able to ride anyway. If someone else needs one quicker, I can wait.
Thanks,
Chris

OK, Chris, thanks for letting me know. Since it doesn't appear anyone is in desperate need, I'll mail the rest of them out together next week when I get the next 10. Speak up if someone needs one sooner.

Al,
Mike Ewasiuk (MikeE) still wants a hanger.
He requested you send him the details in an email.
He's working like a dog these days and hasn't had time to log onto Bad Web.
Figured email would be faster.

He's at: Michael.Ewasiuk@stpaul.com

I picked 'em up from the shop today, just finished boxing them all up. They will go out Monday or Tuesday. My wife drops stuff off at the PO, but Monday is the first day of school, so she might not get there that day.

One other note about installation.....

Getting the straps thru the bracket isn't impossible, but it will fight a little. Getting it thru the first strap slot in the bracket is trivial, but the second will fight a little, and it will need to be forced a little. Patience, grasshopper, it will go. Breaking that sharp corner with a file as described in my installation notes will help as well. In retrospect, I probably should have opened up the slot a tiny bit, but once youput it thru, you shouldn't ever need to remove it.

Should we designate my rides as the "X" series then? Like this, XM2 and XS1. Wait, can'y use either of those. How about M2X and S1XB. Pop me an echo and I will let you know how it worked out.

Al, I came in late last night from a long week on the road to find the bracket and clamps. First class job ! perfecto a mundo !
How do you suggest I finsh the bracket? polish ? black powdercoat ? I'm thinking that polished would be perfect against my polished mufler.
I am so pleased with the look and strength, an awesome job.
Now about those front clamps...

Al,

Got mine too as I stumbled in from a 72 hr DR test.

Before I break someting I want to make sure that the looped part of the strap that the "T" slips into should go through both holes in the hanger. It goes through the first hole easy, the second is real tough.

Donn,
I polished mine, the shine came right up. Looks right on the S1W. But on my black cased S3, I suspect that black powdercoat would be the better option.

EVERYONE: Please do file the edges where the strap bears on the bracket slot edges, 4 places. 1, it will prevent the sharp edge from cutting the strap, and they are VERY sharp 90 degree corners. But 2) by breaking that corner, the loop part of the strap will feed thru the second slot much easier. It will still need to be forced thru, but it will go easier. I think the loop has to deform ever so slightly to push thru the second slot. If I tweaked the design, I'd probably open up the slot ever so slightly to make it easier to put the strap thru. Also, notice how you push it thru the first slot. It goes easily. The reason that it doesn't go easily thru the seocnd slot is that the first slot keeps the strap loop from achieiving the same penetration angle in the second slot. If you tweak the strap a little bit in the first slot while pushing it thru the second, it helps it go thru the second slot more like it went thru the first. Tough to describe, easy to show in my hands....sorry.

Installed the new bracket and clamps. very stealth looking and very very sturdy. The clamps polish nicely and blend in perfectly with the polished race boss. I painted the bracket black as it seemed the best fit for my black case covers.
Only 28 mi on the install. I just did a top end rebuild and will let you all know how everything holds up, but so far this seems to be a perfect solution.

Hey Al,

Are you still reading this? Do you have any more straps available? If so, I'd like to buy 2 or 3.

BTW, Whadda ya think about placing closed cell foam on the bracket where the strap lies and, more importantly, goes through the holes? This would be in addition to filing the hole's edges.

Hman,
Been away from a tube for a few days, but now have access to web but not email.

Don't think foam would be such a good idea..the clamp would compress it to the point where it would be useless, I think. In any case, I now have 12-13K on my original, with several muffler removal cycles in that time, and no issues. So I don't think it's necessary once you've broken the sharp edge.

But on your other question, nah, no more available. I bought a lot of 50 to get the price down from clampco, and all those were distributed.
I kept a couple spares for mine because I have two bikes using this system.

Did your's break? If yes, how? How tight did you clamp them? I have no doubt that one could rip the clamps apart by overtorquing the Tbolt clamps, but there should be no reason to do this. What is the correct torque? Helllifiknow. Tighten until it snugs the muffler and that should be tight enough.

digging into my (no so vast)aviation background.

Figure a max of 60 in lbs for this design and size. I will do some looking thru the books and see what I can find.

Damn! Thanks for the quick reply Al. Since you're w/o e-mail access for a bit, I'll paste the e-mail that I sent to you earlier today.
--------------
Arrgh!

Uh, Hi Al,

Sorry to use you to share/vent my frustration but..... This is somewhat of a lengthy e-mail, so get a cup of joe and sit comfortably.

Let me start by noting that I really love the way the bracket and straps you had fabricated for our Buells with Daytona BOSS pipes looks. I'd previously had a bead welded near the rear of my BOSS pipe to prevent the rear strap from working its way off the pipe from the bottom.

Careless, lazy me didn't measure the location for the bead very well so the location of the bead forced the rear strap to be angled forward rather than straight up and down. Why do I write about this? Well that same bead on the bottom of the pipe somewhat interfered with the rearmost of the two bands in the hanger you designed. I didn't think this would matter much. But I lost the rearmost band before it saw 100 miles.

I rode with just the front band for a while. I figured I'd disassemble the bracket and thread a second strap during the winter (a sad side effect of living in the Midwest is a short riding season). Well yesterday I noticed that I'd lost the other band holding the back of the BOSS. Luckily I was at home. Don't know how long I rode without any rear pipe support. Glad I didn't lose the pipe or worse.

I don't know what happened. Did the T-bolts loosen from the Buell's vibration? Did the bands break from sharp edges? [I'd filed the openings where the bands touch the bracket. Maybe not well enough?] Any recommendations for me to try avoid a reoccurrence?

I need to buy more of the T-bolt clamps. Is it a simple hardware store item? Do you recommend ordering them from McMaster-Carr (by chance, do you know the part number?) or from Clampco (name stamped on the clamp)?

Boy! The M2 is my first bike. I've really enjoyed it. But it's been expensive and a pain to have a bike that "needs me" so much. I like working on a bike to do performance upgrades or appearance mods. But to do so much for repair and just to keep it going makes me think of selling or parting our the ole M2.

Thanks for reading all this. get back to me when you can. No great rush. Please use "reply all" so your reply will go to my home e-mail as well as here.

Be safe,
H-man

Al, It's kinda sweet that Clampco has your initials incorporated in the part number for these clamps.

After checking out the websites for both McMaster-Carr and Clampco, I notiv\ced that your clamp is different in that it can be opened fully.

I'm expecting to hear back from Clampco on what it'll cost for a few clamps they still have from the overrun in making your order. My guess is it'll be pretty steep.

In my previous post I noted that it was just a mystery as to what exactly happened to the clamps. I don't think I over tightened them. But then I didn't measure and I don't exactly have a gentle touch.

Just for grins and giggles, I'll keep you informed.

Wazzup Bri!

I haven't heard anything from you in a bit. Did you receive the couple juicy e-mail I've dashed your way?

You're pretty close on the max. torque for the t-clamp. The Clampco web site states 80 inch-pounds. While that was for the standard clamp which doesn't open, I don't see it differing by much. You can put down those heavy text books now.

Are you still looking for thunderstorm heads? I'd actually forgotten to ask around for you. If you still are looking, I'll send a e-mail out among the Detroit clan.

Peace... through superior firepower,

Thought I would post this here, as this is where it all started.

The race header on my S3 is self-destructing and I need to do something before I run over it as Blake did on his recent trip. I have decided to install a Moroso Spiral Flow muffler obtained from Jegs. The Moroso muffler is 4 inches in diameter. After searching this site if found the mount that Al Lighton had made up and it looks like it would work perfectly for my application. I sent an e-mail to Al who replied that it would
Take a run of 15 to make it feasible to make another run. I for one will need two as if this mod works well on my S3 I will do it to my M2 as well. So I need 13 people who may need this bracket to chime in and let it be known.
