That would be the same models they've been making for 60 years IMO. |

That would be the same models they've been making for 60 years IMO. At least they can design a wheel(thing that makes the bike go) that doesnt shit itself after servicing the bike 2 or 3 times. In another 12 months i will be trading up to a fatbob and have no unfounded concerns with HDs 60 year old technology. |

V-Rod is the Buell replacement for H-D.....lol... From H-D net There are clear benefits to attracting more VRSC customers. * VRSC customers are unique – 60% of them would not be in your dealerships if it weren’t for the VRSC models. * The VRSC family has the highest percentage of customers coming off of competitive performance motorcycles – performance is a unique purchase driver for these models. * After owning a VRSC motorcycle, customers are loyal – 84% of them plan to purchase another Harley-Davidson®. * U.S. VRSC customers have the lowest average age of any motorcycle family – they have the most potential for future purchases over their lifetime. .....read it,hahaha |

Riiiight.... Wow a link with one person having trouble after fitting chrome lowers and not having the right bearing spacer and another link with someone butchering their front bearings. Im impressed, but this has no equal with the failures of buells rear bearings. |

You must of missed the "Finally got the bike in to the dealer. They replaced the front wheel bearings", then also missed the second link with several people reporting low mileage bearing failures. Those were the first two of MANY results I found on the internet. You can do your own research and find recalls (ok from 1980), and others with wheel related issues. No brand is perfect, especially when your parent company makes you use a insufficient design because it would save them some money in the short term. |

Eh, you can find complaints and issues with almost any vehicle. I just wish HD would make a lighter weight touring bike, similar to the FXRT Sport Glide they used to have. I like their bikes, but I want something I can tour on, and I don't need a Road Glide or Ultra. |

Froggy, you left a bit out! I put chrome lowers on, and I think I need to shim one side. response Your wheel inner spacing, via the hub shim pack and tube, was wrong, and was corrected when the new bearings were installed. Self inflicted failures dont count! HD use various rim sizes and axle combinations where as Buell has used one size on 95% of bikes produced and should have nailed it sooner imo But anyway this isnt a buell vs HD thread, but i still get a laugh from watching how despised HD is from buell owners |

You know, the '48 looks allright. Just saying. As another type of ride. Sex is like 108 years old too and people still go back to it. -p |

I think the issue most folks here have with HD - aside from the whole Buell deal, of course - is the fact that their "all new for 20xx" bikes are just warmed over variations on existing bikes. And not a very wide variance, either. The big groundbreakers in the last 10 years or so - the Rocker/Rocker C, and the VRSC family (and to a lesser extent, the XR1200) - they can't GIVE away. Customer preference? Do people *want* the same old thing in Bold New Colors? Or marketing? Do they truly *not know* how to sell anything other than a Glide or a Classic something-or-other? I have to admit, I like the idea of the Road Glide Ultra. But...do a bare-bones version. No chrome, no BS - think FLHT (oh, wait...they killed that for '10) with a fixed fairing and a tour pak. Build a bike with just the stuff that *works*, and don't worry about all the *sparkle*. And don't call it "dark custom". Just call it a freakin' *motorcycle* already. Not EVERYTHING needs a catch-phrase. Unless you feel like you just need to try too hard, all the time. |

HD has a large loyal following, there is nothing wrong with that. Yes the loyal followers are getting older, but all the ones I know have at least one or two more new purchase left in their lifetime. If you ever talk to a HD fan they are as enthusiastic about there bikes as we are. I hope the VRCS brings more people into their fold. I Don't have a problem with HD, but at this stage of my life the current offerings just don't fit expectations of what "I" want to ride. Who knows, that could change at some point? My motorcycle love comes from 40 years of off road riding, but local off road opportunities are drying up. I have to truck a dirt bike 4 hours just to ride it. I have owned a couple 100% street bikes throw in for cheep transportation, but some of my most memorable street bikes were dual sports. I currently own a 2006 XR-650L which I love to ride as much as the Uly. At one point in my life I was a mechanic for a BMW dealership. I sold a BMW K100RS when I bought my Uly. I love my Uly, it is the best handling street bike I have ever owned . It does very well on stone roads also. But I test rode a new BMW the other day and now I want one. It is different then the Uly, it just seems to fit "ME" better. Soon I will be I will be putting my Daughter through collage. What ever bike I have this time next year I will have to keep for at least 4 years. Someone once said "the best bike I ever owned is the current one I have". |

I have a HD and a Buell in my garage. The HD is up for sale. But, I have ridden it a good bit over the years, and while it is very well maintained, I can't compete with the HDs out there for sale with practically no miles on them. I have lowered the price of my bike to about the least I will take for it and still no interest. I may end up keeping it, which is want I really want to do, but from a financial standpoint I kind of need to sell it. |

A lot of the Buell wheel bearing failures are self-inflicted also. We have a great HD dealer here in my hometown and I have friends who work there and I ride with them sometimes. I would take a Fat Bob with low bars they look cool, just the whole ape hanger-layers of chrome thing is just goofy to me. |

Johnboy, The F800GS. and to keep this thread on track, I have already read everything there is to read about the bike. I know the upsides and downsides, so we don't need to start a discussion of how the Buell is better . The 2 bikes are really as different as night and day. Towpro, you're two posts above are spot on for me. I feel much the same on these issues. I like Harley and some of their bikes and I hope the company does well. I love my Uly, like Guzzi's, some BMW's, some Kawasaki's. etc. Life is good and the choices make it better. |

It's funny to me because they're description of VRSC riders is nearly identical to a description of a Buell rider, in my opinion. I had never owned a Harley because it didn't suit me or the type of riding I do. It was Buell that brought me into "the HD family." And now that Buell is gone, I see no reason to stay. HD still has nothing to attract my attention. In my youth, I rode Hondas exclusively and to this day have not one complaint about any Honda I've ever ridden. I have now owned two Buells that I have been extremely happy with and will not sell. I bought my son a Suzuki that is quite a nice motorcycle. I suspect my next bike will be European. When I get old and slow (sometime after hip surgery I suspect), I'll look at getting a cruiser type bike. It won't be a Harley. I don't begrudge them their success, but I also won't contribute to it. They've lost me as a customer. |

A lot of the Buell wheel bearing failures are self-inflicted also. Mnrider, got any hard facts to back up that statement? I'm very interested in seeing your data. I guess Buell wasted their time re-designing the rear wheels for 2010. For the record, none of my failures have been, as you say "self-inflicted". But then again, your're not the first or only one on this board to make that kind of statement. Many people just refuse to believe there are issues with the original design. I don't have that problem. |

I with you on this Dirt the bearings are way too small IMO. Thats why I think extra caution has to be used during wheel removal and assembly. |

HDs idea of innovation / improvement for 2011 is more chrome, ipod holder, & *heated seats (*something we got on the Uly for free) all for only about $30K. And they still have the non-riding CEO at the helm. Amazing. |

Ghostrider When I get old and slow (sometime after hip surgery I suspect), I'll look at getting a cruiser type bike. I had both hips replaced 6 years ago, started riding again last spring on a VStar. Got the Uly in Feb and have 5k on it. This bike is way more comfortable for me then the crusier was........... |

No - Remember... we're "Piraturers". We only wear 1 eyepatch at a time. 'Them's the rules'. Buellerxt - Even with comfort kit, over 85* and I got heated seat...& frame & tail section & swingarm &... We're spending time & $ to get rid of heat & HD is charging big$ to add it...ironic. Perhaps HD & Uly riders should join forces & cut out the middle man ?? |
