Here is a pic of the factory comfort kit scoop and heat shield. I will post a pic of the underseat fan cowling when I get a chance to snipe of a pic.

Here is the fan cowling. I but a strip of military Duct tape to make seal the joint with the existing plastic cowling.

Matt is your seat rubbing the front ECM connector. If it is it could cause a problem. |

I don't think so. why do you ask? |

Looks like there is rub marks on the front connector. It could break the connector away from the ecm body. |

i'll take a look tonight. You may be right. I put aluminium tape on the underside of my seat, and the rub marks look silver. |

Hey Matt, How much of a difference did the comfort kit make? Cooler? Performance? I am thinking about installing? |

The comfort kit isn't a performance option, per se. There is a specific mapping that goes along with it, I didn't notice any difference one way or the other in terms of performance. ...heat output, however, was drastically reduced. Well worth the money, IMO. |

The comfort kit programming only changes fan operation. No other changes like map/timing/etc. |

Is the new program for the comfort kit a good choice? What is the concensus so far. To flash or not to flash? I have the kit ordered, I just can't decided about the new program. Thanks for any input. |

There is no reason not to get the flash. |

Thanks Froggy. My dealer wants $140.00 to do the flash. Is that reasonable? |

That $140 dollars are to include the comfort kit as well right? Because to do the flash alone it's $30-$40 bucks.. |

I think he said that was for the flash alone. If it is I will pass on it. |

Could someone enable my laziness and sloth and post the part number for the comfort kit? I need to add it to the 2009 XT I have right now... Thanks |

I recently got a chance to install the scoop and heat shield on my 06. The fan shroud will have to wait. The difference was immediate and dramatic. I ride 35 miles to work in ambient temps of low 30's (rarely- LA basin, after all) to upper 60's, at freeway speeds, and the fan has never failed to be running when I exit the freeway. First morning after the install it wasn't on (45 degrees). It wasn't running even after the evening commute (warmer temps but generally slower speeds). I am very impressed at the difference. Haven't had it out in warm weather, yet, but that'll come soon enough. Very worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. Also, any 06 owners who haven't upgraded the air box cover to left-side air intake like on the 07's and later this is another valuable and cheap improvement. |

To answer your questions, I beleive that FULL the comfort install was a GREAT move. I had the comfort kit and fan cowling installed in a couple of hours (the fan can be a little long seeing as you have to undo the black plactic tail pan and to get that off you need to undo the panniers. But other than that it was pretty easy to do, just follow the instructions with only the folowing modification (DO NOT REMOVE THE ECM BOLTS, ONLY LOOSEN IT AND TURN IT AN INCH OR TWO TO GET ACCESS). I rode the bike about 2 weeks before getting the ECM flash. My inner thight did feel cooler (or I should say less hot), but other than that no big difference. After the ECM re-flash! Definitly a difference. So far the fan has never come on after parking the bike, and I have never noticed it as I ride. However, i have heard it come on during long idle times, so i know it still works. My inner thigh is now definitely cooler, and i do not feel any heat discomfort from the seat. I beleive the main advantage was that by having the fan on as you ride it eliminate (or reduces) any positive pressure build from having two scoops trying to ram air into suck a small space. That is the fan allows fresh cool air to be constantly flowing through. While riding 2-up, most of my riding is done 2-up (commuting to work I drop off my wife, and city driving/parking is just so much easier on a bike, and weekend drives are also done with my wife) my wife did notice that she is the one who is getting the hot air now. I can confirm this as I rode without my gloves to verify this. The air flows out under the tail and seems to hugs the underside of the tail untill it reaches the high apex and then escape around the sides instead of flowing out the back. I presume eliminating the tail fender part holding the licence plate could fix this, should it become an issue. As of yet it hasn`t. Comfort kit ECM flash Both togetehr: My 2cents. |

Regarding my seat rubbing on the ECM... You are correct. I checked the underside on my seat and the aluminum tape have 3 marks on it. Any suggested solutions? |

I fixed my rubbing by removing the rear ecm bolt and installing a long bolt and nut for the seat to rest on. Others have come up with better fixes. |

Mattmcc00, I tried installing a spacer block on the rear ECM bolt. Same part that is used on the front ECM screw. I had to remove it because it made the seat almost impossible to install. There just was not quite enough clearance for it. It was OK height-wise but the recess in the bottom of the seat was just a little short. I could not slide the seat ahead far enough without excessive force. Just wanted to let you guys know so you don't waste almost $12 on a little piece of plastic like I did. Thanks. |

I think the guys were grinding that block down so it's just above the ecm. |

I just put the kit on my 06 Uly. The under seat pan was a bitch.. I had to replace it anyway as the original was cracked. All in all, not too bad a job. Anywhere to get the flash code? Brad |

my seat rubs the connector as well. looks just like yours. it even has cracked the waterproof gell around the connector at the ecm. Dealer said it looked fine. they said all the spacer does is keep the seat from breaking the connectors off. rubbing is fine.

No flash for the 06's,only 08,09,10's... You left out the '07. There is no flash for that model either. However with the comfort kit installed, the bike fan doesn't run nearly as long when the ignition is turned off. Wayne |

If the dealer said the split RTV around the connector was fine then I would suggest they don't understand what they are looking at. Those connectors are soldered onto the ECM logic board and aren't really very strong - they just won't hold up to long-term flexing. I know of a couple of guys who have had eventual ECM failures on the '06's as a result of the seat rubbing so it just isn't worth tempting fate. This link shows two different inexpensive ways of getting the seat off the connectors: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/465269.html?1246153230 I fitted my fix to my '06 X ages ago and with just over 59,000 miles on it I am confident it was worth the effort to protect the ECM plugs. I now also have an '09 XT and noticed the seat rubbing on one connector despite the later block set-up. On that I have used a shaped piece of high-density foam on top of the ECM to keep the connectors undamaged. |
