Hey Guys, Can`t remember seeing a tread or treads on the most popular units for sale out there... My main concern of course having all the weather protection etc etc.. is : 1. Picture Quality playback... 2. size of remote camera... 3. Length of time recording... 4. one I really care about is all that Damn Wind noise I hear on most, Don`t want to play any music in the background, only the music the bike makes and 100 percent clear No Damn wind noise... Not in any order except the wind noise crap... What are your guys views on these units, always wanted to get a good one, without breaking the bank... Thanks |

Don't know about sound quality... but this camera does a good job with picture quality, and it's weather-proof. It's also fairly affordable. GoPro Hero Wide: Lot's of accessories here at ironpony.com. Just search camera. |

Check out this thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/499548.html?1254232000 And here is the site for the ContourHD http://vholdr.com/contourhd/helmetcam?q=contourhd/ overview There is a gain setting on the microphone which is adjustable. I am not sure if you can turn the sound "off" but this cam is what you are looking for.... Pete |

A small piece of foam windscreen attached over the microphone would solve your wind noise lickety split. (Message edited by piotr12 on November 11, 2009) |

I'm waiting for the new GoPro HD to ship, had it on order for about a month now and it should be just about ready to ship to me. Take a look at the sample videos they have on the GoPro site, if the real video looks nearly as good I'll be pleased. http://www.goprocamera.com/hdheropreview/ Check the Formula car clip where the camera must be hanging out in the wind and how clean the audio is. The stuff inside the Porsche is really good too, but I don't think it is in the waterproof housing inside that car. New lens for housing = $30 New camera because you were too lazy to put it in the housing = $300 Not too hard to decide how to mount it on a bike. Even behind the windscreen I would probably put it in the housing. Need a mount that does double duty as the gas cap, that way you might get the gauges in the picture. I have the Go pro.( Fisheye lense) I use it for dirtbiking and occasionally on the Buell. The sound is ok but conversations are a little muffled. Full sound can be attained if you remove the rubber housing gasket. However obviosly not water or weatherproof then. Engine noise is picked up easily with gasket installed. The wind noise at 70 on the buell isn't too bad depending what attachment you use. Direct helmet mount is the best. With The suction cup one, there is a slight wind noise prob. I did find when mounted to the bike the noise wasn't the prob it was the vibration,so mounting it to you is better. All and All well worth the money very durable too. Dirtbiking I had a unexpected branch rip me off the bike, and in the process rip the camera off the helmet and slam on some rocks no breakage or issues. For above 1.Picture quality= Excellent 2.Approx 4x2 inches 3.1 Hour continuous movie (2G SD card only allowed) can vary pictures and movies mix the two or set automatic pictures every 5 sec. 4. wind noise acceptable IMHO (Message edited by spdrxb on November 11, 2009) |

There is a new Hero HD that goes up to 1080 full HD resolution. $299. Great accessories to attach it just about anywhere and they claim improved noise reduction to substantially reduce wind noise. |

So I guess thats about it, as far as what within this forum uses or are going to use.... Greg_e Really nice videos from that link, but the guys jumping off the cliffs , Seems to be ALOT of wind Noise really bad Not sure whats going on there, would think thats the same quality one would get mounted on a bike at speeds for sure? Your thoughts?? |

Based on the formula car I think it will be OK, based on the parachute stuff, not so good. I have a feeling that the Formula car is with the housing on, and the parachute stuff is with the housing off and that may be all the difference in the world. As I said above, we should only consider the performance with the housing on since it would be dumb and possibly expensive to run without the housing. The stuff in the Porsche is almost definitely without the housing since you can see at least one other looking at the driver and no housing. Still no email saying that it shipped, so might have to wait until next week. I don't think there are any pre-order bargains left, so waiting a couple more weeks shouldn't really matter unless you had something coming right up that you wanted a camera to record. |

Oh.. Just the one with the cars seems to be Inside looking from behind the driver, may be why no noise? Or perhaps thats not the same Video you are watching ... |

The Formula car is definitely outside since there is no inside on those cars. The helmet stuff with the dirtbikes was decent too, but I don't know how fast they are going. |

Youtube review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=konsX6eKftw Mine is supposed to arrive on Monday. From some people that have already received their cameras, there is a special cover or something in case you expect the wind to be over 100mph. Not sure how well it will work with this cover off. |

Thanks Greg_e, When he was first out in the yard he was recording with the mike , talking about his ripped up jacket etc before the ride, and you could hear alot of wind noise just him standing there, and wonder why he recorded the ride with the other unit...Hmmm Don`t sound too good for audio, Seems the Contour HD may be better in that audio, Not sure On the forums with the ContourHD seems alot have done stuff to improve the Audio wind noise and Not bad.. far as video goes, Both seem as good as one another..Although the Contour seems like it would be more stream line attached to the side of the Lid or any other mounting areas as well??? THanks let us know how yours work out ... |

A remote mic fitted under the airbox cover would probably solve all of the wind noise, and you would hear the motor really well. |

The reason he didn't use the audio from the GoPro on the ride was he wanted to talk about it, the goPro was stuck to the top of his helmet. I still wish he had edited a short clip of the audio from the gopro into that review. I may not have anything to edit the video with at home, pretty much everything may have too slow a processor so I'll see what I can do, but I may have to edit at work in either Finalcut or Avid MediaComposer. Hoping VLC will allow me to make some simple cuts that I can upload somewhere. I'm hoping the weather next week will be decent enough for a ride or two so that I might try a few different locations. Also hoping that the Tourmaster jacket and pants will actually fit so that the weather doesn't matter as much. I will not be sticking the cam to the top of my helmet. I'd like to get it on the gas cap and maybe the side near the oil cooler which would give a behind the screen audio, and a right in the wind audio. Then I'll start to figure out mods to the less than 100mph back that may be needed to kill the wind noise. |

It's here, but no SD card so I'm going to have to clean one off before I can try it. Sent them (revzilla) an email to see what's up and expect they'll stick one in the mail tomorrow. Some parts look like decent quality, one of the mount accessories not so much quality. I'll probably have to cut that adapter out of aluminum so that it is decent. The suction cup is indeed impressive. I stuck it to part of the overly expensive and complete functionless after opening packaging and pulled as hard as I thought I dared. If I pulled harder I expect the suction cup to be damaged so I decided it was good enough. Time to read the directions as it seems a little clumsy to navigate the menus with the 2 buttons on the camera. |

And the disappointment continues.... My camera has the old firmware so things like setting it to flip the image when the camera is upsidedown isn't here. The firmware is not yet posted on their site. Also it requires class 4 cards, all I have are class 2 cards so there is another $30 unless stuff happens to be on sale this week. I'm now fairly unhappy about the lack of included card, and the lack of the correct firmware on their site. I was going to shoot some video on my way to work, but not sure if I'll bother since I have a feeling that the video will skip because of the slow card. |

Since I wasn't able to get out today, and my testing on the drive home didn't turn out very good, I found a couple more examples from real retail users on the web. I've pretty much decided that while the suction cup mount works incredibly well and is certainly the best mount in the kit, it just generates way too much wind noise. Stuck it to the side of my car and nothing but wind the entire trip home. These three sound great compared to what I have been able to get. http://www.evisor.tv/tv/helmkamera/gopro-hero-hd-o n-board-ducati--10661.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DB1SNOpdDvI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyIVeZuEyBg These two are typical of what I got and they were both with the suction cup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TdLbr220RQ&feature =related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKD6XlrW9JI&feature =related And this one bothers me with the loud clicking noise. I think the clicking is from the junky mounts, they are not as tight as they should be and probably rattled with the vibrations of the car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94pfA8PtfWg I have a feeling that I'll be ordering some aluminum and machining new mounts soon. I still intend to get mine on my bike if the weather permits, if not I'll have to stick one of the mounts to my bumper and give it anther try with the car to check the audio. The video has shown signs of being good, but I'm also finding that the all auto features can easily be tricked and I'm wishing for manual controls even if it required setting those features with a computer. |

Thanks For the up to date stuff there.... The last video with the clicking seems to be the best , besides that clicking, not much if any wind noise I could hear... Video seems Great,No problems there at all.. Seems this one is as good or better than the ContourHD, But either one may be as good , Seems Myself I like the Bullet style of the ContourHD, for mounting places etc.. But thats just what I have seen in the adds... |

The contour would mount in some places a lot easier than the gopro, also less drag from the smaller frontal area. One reviewer also said the contour is more motorsports friendly because it has a big sliding switch to put it into record, something that is easy to do with glove on and easy to tell if you really put it into record. Will be interested t see how this changes if the wireless remote for the gopro ever emerges. Same for the wireless mic. I may be able to sneak out for an hour shortly and I'll see where I can mount mine with the stickie mounts, probably only going to get the on top of air cleaner through the windscreen view until I can make something to clamp to the side of the bike, not enough plastic on the Buells to just stick a camera where ever you want. I want to try it with both the waterproof and "open" backs to hear the differences. Need to test my Tourmaster jacket and pants too. Next week I need to order a bunch of screws for the gopro mounts, the thumb screws are OK, but they a long enough that several mount configurations can not work. |

Looks and sounds like crap now that it is on youtube, going to have to find out how to upload HD videos and have them still look good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxmdP3WujY8 A 200mb file condensed to about 10mb. Not happy with the audio, sounds OK after the mount stops rattling, and until I get into cruise and the gain comes up to maximize the wind noise. Guess I didn't need to worry about anyone being able to tell my speed, can't see the gauge after youtube got done mangling it. Audio was with the "open" back and a mount stuck to the gas cap that I need to scrape off so I can put fuel in. I don't think I went faster than the recommended speed for this back, and it was behind the windscreen so it shouldn't have had too much wind. |
