I've heard since the m/c industry is in the tank; H-D sales off, and profits pummeled, BUELL may be deleted from company.....maybe end of an era. Gotta sell some "other" bikes & get more BUELLs' |

>>> H-D sales off, and profits pummeled, BUELL may be deleted from company Riddle me this Batman . . . if your sales were off (Harley's by the way are off less than "all bike sales) and your profits pummeled (HD still, unlike some firms) made a profit and Buell did more than it's fair share and is looking bright going ahead. Why . . . would you eliminate one of the profitable elements? Just out of curiousity where did you hear that? Most the time I challenge the source, the answer is "some guy on the internet told me". Do tell. Court
quote:The financial news from Harley-Davidson is bleak: a second quarter drop in profits of 91%, with $19.8 million in earnings compared with $222.8 million a year ago, and U.S. market share dropping from 53.1%, to 48.7%. Harley stock has also fallen to nearly half of its value compared to last year, and the manufacturer has announced an additional 1,000 layoffs. Share prices leapt 9%, with investors perhaps assuming that a leaner approach might help H-D return to profitability, but today Fitch downgraded their debt rating today from A- to BBB+.
By the way . . . HD has some MAJOR problems, look for more big changes. Buell is about the brightest spot they currently have. |

You don't "hear" on the interweb, just acquire B.S., reason I only look at this on occasion. I "heard" what I have commented on in live conversation with my peers within the Cycling community. Just threw out to the web for fodder. I believe less than 1/3 of what I read on the web....but that may be an optimistic assessment. CYCLENEWS is one of best sources for Motorcycle information, been a long time subscriber. Awaiting the venom |

>>>Wow then they are in really bad shape. That would be an inaccurate statement. In fact, I'd kinda classify it as moutherhea. I'm not sure Buell's future has ever been more exciting or promising. My bet is that both Harley-Davidson and Buell will emerge from the current economic climate just fine. On the other hand . . . if you have some facts to back your smart ass remark up with, let's hear them. Court |

Other than it's been in several news papers Business sections, about large Harley layoffs. Hell the Buell guys even mentioned similar info to me way back at the Fontana race. - Buell..so far, doing well. - Harley..so far.. not doing so well, layoffs imminent. And that seems to be the case as far as the business sections go. As far as both coming out of this doing at least....ok, they most likely will be fine. Mike |

Court Posted on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 - 12:07 pm: On the other hand . . . if you have some facts to back your smart ass remark up with, let's hear them. Court ________________ The previous post stated that Buell was the high point of the companies. As a consumer (bike ho) I would say that the 1125 roll out has been a little less than perfect. It takes a lot of ribbing in many circles. If future development dollars are cut its unlikely that Buell will get to finish designing the next series of bikes. I'm guessing the 1125 was intended as quick arrangement to allow selling of Rotax engines and that a more complete and thought out designed model was still to come. If dollars are tight I would fear that may not happen and we will continue to sell 2008's for years to come. It's like Rodney Dangerfield it cant get no respect. The Mopar Superbee's NASCAR's of the early 70's were also a quick fix to address a need utilizing function over form but the truth is they set on showroom floors hard to sell while a more complete design package the Ford Taladaga sold out quickly. There is a HUGE pent up demand for an American made sportbike that should have cleared the Buell Sales floors especially with a world renowned Rotax powered bike. I hope we (Americans) did not blow our last chance by only adding a silly wing vs designing the whole body to do what we want. My guess that for every current Buell customer today there could be 5 more that would buy a one when the rumors of poor reliability fade and awkward styling are addressed. I really want to move my motorcycle dollars to an American product. When the 2010 models are released I will know how serious Buell is about competing in the market place. Unless they used up all their chances. |

Except you are wrong. First, it was the SuperBIRD, not the Super Bee. Second, while it's true, the Superbirds didn't sell well to the general public, they did very well on the track....and are highly prized now. They were designed, tested, and built for racing. The only reason they were even sold to the public was NASCAR required it. |
