Finally... someone else is getting part of the big picture. I'm guessing we're going to start seeing more and more of this. |

As far a styling, they are trying to get a younger group, it should look like the other hot bikes. They have enough grey beards and advrider guys already, they are looking to attract up the other 95% of motorcycle buyers, whom seem to like the R6 quite a bit. |

Yep, you are right, fraternal twins for sure. The face is almost identical. |

IIRC, the test bikes wore R6 bodywork to throw off the spy photographers. Gives you an idea how compact it is, too... |

Since the 80's BMW has continually made big intros for "sportbikes" that were 100lbs too heavy, 5 inches too long, or just underpowered. This is the first time they seem really serious, and gave up all the "special" beemer gadgets that work for touring but not sport/race. I don't think they will half-ass it this time. |

I think it will be high, but less than the KTM, which they must be very proud of in Austria. |

Wow a totally new Japanese bike! From Germany. On the upside, they are pricing it to compete directly with the Big Four. |

With German labor, they are as likely to make money competing head-go-head with Japan as Harley would be doing it here. By that logic, they should give a 5k rebate on their entire GS linup, quadruple sales, and still make money. Now they will actually have to retool every couple of years to compete, which will be higher costs than BMW has ever dealt with in the past. I know that is probably their intention, but I just don't understand how it will be possible. |

BMW will have the bike built in China and Korea. It will not be made in Germany. They will have it priced at about $10,995 and will make money. |

I wish they would make the GS line in China and Korea so I could buy one. |

It'd still be ugly. It's almost as ugly as the Stelvio. Gack. |

I'm disappointed myself. After years of introducing new technology to the street, for their first SERIOUS race bike they go out and build... ...a GSXR1000... |

Problem is, none of their new technology will keep up with a GSXR1000 and its "old tech". You can bet they tried to use BMW tech for the superbike effort, and it didn't work. It's a big deal for BMW to lose face a bit by copying what works, Japanese sportbikes. I'm sure they did their best to avoid this. I guess they could have copied Ducati instead. |

That new BMW is one ugly bike. The lines do not flow or even catch the eye. Maybe Chris Bangle went to the bike division? |

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but blame Dave Robb. I can't say I've liked many of his designs since he took over over a decade ago. The K1200LT is one of the few exceptions. |

I do not really like it but hey BMW finally made a bike that doesn't make me want to vomit when I look at it.It does look very common to a lot of the other bikes on the road though.I give it two thumbs sideways leaning toward the ground. |

Looking at the BMW dealer marketing pieces, the tone for this bike is they are building it to win and win NOW, hence the race proven tech. Plus it keeps the price down. BMW wants to keep the price in line with the competition. I think we'll see the BMW "tech" slowing find it's way on to this bike over time. |

One of the headlights should be a different shape from the other. Otherwise, it isn't a BMW. |

Just like the abominations that BMW has been pushing on car buyers in the last few years, this "thing" is following the trend of butt-ugliness. I had so much hope based upon the good looks of the race version, but that's all gone now. Ever since moving the design center to California, BMW has completely lost their way... remember when you could recognize any BMW product from a distance in about 1/2 second? At least the Italians still have an eye for beauty. |

I don't know where the sport bike is being assembled, but the new 800 motor is already assembled by Kymco in Taiwan. If you are going to go bargain-Asia, Kymco is probably one of the best choices, though. They were originally started up through Honda. |

Actually the 800 motors are BMW designed & built by Rotax, the single cylinder 450 & 650 motors are BMW designed & built by Kymco. |
