I pulled a huge power wheelie today when shifting from 1st to 2nd at almost 7krpms. I'm pretty sure I could have kept it up if I had of stayed on the throttle, but there was a curve coming up so i backed off. Anyone able to power wheelie shifting quick into second and balance it? Next up I will try shifting at redline. I'm to afraid to clutch it up on this short, torquey bike. (Message edited by moosestang on October 04, 2008) |

How are you shifting exactly? Like normal, clutchless, or power(staying on the gas). |

hell ya i do this all the time but i shift at 6400 in too 2nd gear i just back out off the throttle alittle bit and hold it through all of 2nd gear and i can clutch it up in 2nd at 20 mph and ride it out (Message edited by rednismo on October 04, 2008) |

I always shift with the clutch and i'm not power shifting. I shift very, very quickly though and i'm back on the trottle as soon as the clutch is released. Getting back on the throttle and releasing the clutch is pretty much all one motion for me. I think if I tried to power shift (not releasing the throttle at all), I would end up on my back. I pulled the front wheel shifting from 2nd to 3rd, but not nearly as high as 1st to 2nd. I still have not felt it come up in 1st gear, but it maybe up a little before I shift, hard to tell. I have not tried chopping the throttle, then stabbing it at 4500rpms though. |

My 04 XB12R would always pull second and third gear power wheelies! Loved it! |

My favorite wheelie is from a dead stop 1st. gear leave with wheel up, drop when out of RPM shift 2nd. up till out of RPM.Still yet to try shifting 1 to 2 while wheel is up. Torque, wheel base short, age 53,think I`ll just keep dragging the pegs in turns vs possible back flip and all the cost that comes after, doctors etc. |

I snapped my belt doing a wheelie. I'd say having a spare might not be a bad idea if you do it a bunch. I did have about 13k on it I think. |

Moosestang that's 13K miles, not 13 thousand wheelies. Just FYI. Maybe just a coincidence on wheelies and breakage, don't know, but belts are like $175 or so. |

I did a power wheelie shifting to second too but it wasn't with my 12, it was with a 9 that I was demoing. |

Sticks..., there has been debate on if doing wheelies, power or clutch has any negative effects on the longevity of the belt. Give that the idler is a stationary object but the suspension is constantly moving, under positive load(I think) the belt has less tension than it should. A sponsor on this site sells an idler pulley that keeps constant tension on the belt regardless of suspension load. Something like that. |

If you haven't felt the front lift in first gear, you've been wussing out! I was riding with a chick on the back, and gave it a lil too much gas from a stoplight and the front end started lifting up! I've also 12 o'clocked it, from a dead stop, while drag racing at a track. THAT was scary. I usually just pop the clutch to wheelie, but I do it so rarely I don't really pay attention to exactly how I do it. (Message edited by zpyro on October 06, 2008) |

2nd and 3rd gear are my gears of choice for wheelies. I love to bang it through 1st and 2nd and then lift the front tire low in the rpms in 3rd. It equals a massive high speed wheelie. My XB9 with the Buell race kit has no problem lifting the tire...front or rear. |

Second gear you can pull up at 2.5k rpm and ride the balance point till your bored. Oh yeah, clutch it up pansy..... I dont do power wheelies, to hard to get to the balance point. You have a better chance at a controlled wheelie using the clutch, I usually pop the clutch and the bike will settle in at the BP. But this is literally thousands of wheelies of practice. No I really dont know what rpm, or how much throttle, it is all feel and I sure aint looking at the gauges. (Message edited by new12r on October 07, 2008) |

I was actually shocked by the 09 XB12Scg I demod at mid-ohio. On the back straight I would shift FAST (with the clutch, and chopping the throttle off, then back to WOT) into 4th gear (!), and EVERY time, the front tire would raise up half a foot or so! after the 3rd or 4th consecutive time, I looked at the speedo, and I was reading 95 MPH! That impressed the hell out of me. |

Any other scenarios require the clutch for me. Shifting from from one gear to the next is not a power wheelie. |

didn't mean to call you a kid moose. just used to talking to my students. if the clutch is required for said wheelie, it is not a power wheelie. if it is not, then it will qualify. but would you consider doing a neutral slam into first without the clutch a power wheelie? not. i am not going to capitalize today just cuz |

Mine didn't start to power wheelie until it was broken in good, around 1200miles. Now it will pull the wheel thru 2nd. I'm to big for it to do it in 3rd.....lol |

Personally I love to bring my front wheel up in any occasion. Second gear while accelerating hard is fun but i find it more pleasing to clutch it up in first starting from almost a stop and getting to balance point. I have a problem with power wheelies and i cant figure out why can someone help me with this what am i doing wrong i just cant get it to come up past 2nd gear except a couple of inches in 3rd. |

i pulled a mean wheelie in 1st gear after stopping at a stop sign... i had the clutch in.. rev'ed up alittle and let the clutch go and the bike shot off like a rocket. Then up came the front wheel till i let off the throttle and shift into 2nd. |
