OK, I stripped out a bolt on my XB12Ss and my wife's XB12Scg! It seems that the muffler cover bolts are T-26s because a 25 is a little small and a 27 won't fit! Oh, I've never seen a T-26! Is there a special size for these bolts on a Buell? |

You know those little pin things for stuffing turkey? I keep one of those in my tool box. When the driver doesn't fit, I clean out the hole. Saves a lot of aggravation. |

The Bike is brand new, so no clogged bolt holes. I'm pretty good at mechanics and I know that the T-27 is too big! Thanks for trying though. |

Sorry, I just bought and used a T-27 to take the chin cowl off. But I'm here and you're there with your bike. |

Yeah you must be talking about the chin fairing. Those are T-27's for sure. I've had mine off and on several times now. (Message edited by boltrider on October 01, 2008) |

Yeah those bolts were a PITA on my new bike too. In fact I stripped two of them. I have since replaced them with regular hex nuts. The problem wasn't so much the bolts as it was the orange locktite. |

ALL are T27... I've never owned a T26, never even seen a T26, and removed tens of thousands of these fasteners (Never with a T25, which harley uses in a couple of places, but Buell doesn't). What I find is that there is a wide variance in the Torx tools, with some fitting poorly, or not at all. Also, make sure you're not using TorxPlus. My personal favorite are the torx drivers that don't fit well (which is what you have, I'm guessing). A few taps with a hammer will seat the T27 in the fastener, and the tight fit helps keep it from stripping. They can be R+R'd several times without strippage. i had the same problem...ill explain the correct size is t27, so i go to my tool box and grab my snap-on bit and it wouldn't fit!!! i look at the bit and noticed i grabbed the tamper resistant by mistake (has a whole is the center of the bit) so then i grabbed my standard torx driver and it fit fine. I have also used a craftsman t27 and that works ok too but the problem is sears only sells the t27 in a set of 3 drivers that costs 50 bucks. I haven't seen a t27 driver by itself for sale. |

They are a T-27, there is no T-26. Sometimes the head of the bolt will get a bit buggered, or the torx bit itself can get a burr on it. |

I’ve owed a XB9R and a XB12X. I bought every T-27 tool known to man. ¼” hex bits, screwdrivers, right angle, long, short, ¼”, 3/8” drive T-27 sockets, etc. Then I bought a 1125R and they changed all the T27 to T30. ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/banghead.gif) |
