At Homecoming they said they were working on 300+ racing parts for the 1125R. Not sure if any/all of them would require a license to purchase.

This is fantastic and all ... but, are all of these parts only going to be available to those with a race license? If that is the case, then most of us are screwed. You would think that at the very minimum we would be able to buy the body work!

We should be able to get anything that doesn't effect emissions without a race license. We'll see how safe the legal department makes Buell play it.

I hope you're right. I hope its like the old days when they allowed everyone to buy the "race kit" for the XB's ... but I doubt that is going to be the case. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Is there a time line on when these products will start to be available?

What exactly is a race license? In particular, who issues it?

Funny, the article says the kit gives the 1125R a claimed 146 bhp. Um, isn't that what it has stock?

Sorry to say the "old days" are GONE! In case you have not noticed, even the Screaming Eagle brand of performance components have been trimmed way down.

Even Power Commander was sued by the state of CA and they had to pay many millions of $'s. This happened because their products were making motorcycles be in non-compliance with the emission requirements. The City of Denver is now issuing tickets for M/C with exhausts that do not have the DOT stamp. I think that if you get 1 or 3 of these tickets, the last one can cost you over $500.00.

The best we can hope for is the race parts that do not change the emissions (like black_snowman mentioned) will be available. Remember, emissions are not just what comes out of the exhaust, now they are also concerned over the noise emissions.

Later
Neil S.

The racing license is issued by a racing organization conducting sanctioned races.

ASRA, CCS, WERA, CMRA, WSMC, MotoST, AMA, and others.

To get a novice racing license, in the organizations I'm familiar with you must have a race-prepared machine (check rules for safety-wiring and other tech rules), spend a day in school - split between classroom - going over procedures and safety. Then back-and-forth between classroom and the track for practice sessions under the eye of the track instructors. All have graduation criteria - usually a maximum lap time and an assessment by an instructor and track marshalls that you are predictable and consistent. It's more important to be predictable than it is to be fast since in practicing and racing, you're going to be being passed by riders just a few inches away and they MUST be able to predict your riding in order to make a safe pass. You don't want to be out in a practice session on your litrebike doing about 160 in a big sweeper when the guy in front of you takes an unnecessarily WIDE line when setting up a turn. People get hurt.

After class, there are often some exercises - practice starts in a group for example - some organizations don't issue the license until the first race is completed; you're given a provisional license until then.

Figure that it uses up a set of tires and two days on the track.

It's a good investment and besides, once you have a race license, you can ride on race practice days in your racing organization for HALF the price of a typical track day - a HELLUVA deal - and you get to see much better riding than you EVER will on the street.

Check out the organization in your area and have FUN.

NO factory is EVER AGAIN going to issue race parts that mess with ANY emissions. Remember the fines are FEDERAL - EPA - and NOT State fines. $10,000 per violation means that NO dealer will install non-compliant stuff any more. Bummer, but it's the world in which we live.

Yep, that's the claim at the crankshaft. If the "race kit" could up the rear wheel horsepower to 146hp, that would be a good first step but, not enough for Superbike.

If I recall, the Superbike rules are being re-written for 2009 in AMA.

Actually, I'm betting that Buell is more interested in MotoST and other racing clubs than in AMA SBK

The 1125R is starting to DOMINATE twins-classes in its first season of racing - NATIONWIDE

Wow! We must be getting a sneak peak at a 2009 model, mustn't we?

Is there any possible reason they wouldn't offer that fairing on a production model?

Just think of all the time we could have saved arguing about "pods" if it had that lower fairing attached from the start.

Well, if it makes the heat off the frame worse, that'd be a valid reason for not making it standard. It does look good.

Good point Hugh . . .

. . . but couldn't a well designed fairing actually improve cooling by better controlling and directing air-flow?

I don't know if that's true in this case, but it seems like it is at least theoretically possible.}

Danny seemed quite pleased with his 1125R over the past weekend. Even running Corsa3 STREET tires at Road America, he dominated pretty much everything he entered.

Trackdad... Just bite the bullet and buy one already, will ya? : )

Starting to see some real deals out there...guys unloading 1125rs with less than 1,000 miles for around $10,000. No dealer BS fees and most sellers will work with you on the sales tax....that is how I will buy my next Buell most likely.

This race kit includes a body kit, steering damper, gears and engine mapping. Boosts it up to 146 at the rear tire.

So am i to understand that the engine mapping is the only thing bringing this bike up to 146bhp? If so i want it lol.

I got a feeling you will need a race licence for the ECM map. Some stuff like the body kit might be for public.
