Can you Buell owners enlighten me here.. What are the equipment differences between the 2006 X model and the 2008 XT model.? I'm looking at a new XT model but the dealer is not wheeling and dealing..it's the last 2008 model. I found a 2006 X model that is looking mighty nice with the price and it also has the cases too. Price is a lot better than the new 2008.. I only know of one thing and that is the 2008 has the heated handgrip standard.. What else is different? Thanks |

2006 was the first year 2007 has a lower seat, different inner air box, remapped ECM, different front fork springs, different oil pump drive gear, Pirelli Scorpion Sync tires and a few other little things 2008 brings in a new motor, new fuel injection system, bigger oil cooler, different front forks to decrease turning radius (XB12X), heated grips, heat deflectors under the seat, new accessory system under the flyscreen, new colors, and a few other small changes. Differences between 2008 X and XT: Suspension: the X has a taller suspension that gives a higher seat height. Front forks: 2008 X has the new forks that have an improved turning radius, makes it a easier to fart around in the woods and tight parking lots. XT still has the old forks that have a larger turning radius, but its less of a issue on XT than the 2006-7 X. Bags: Standard on XT, optional on X. Windshield: X has the short one, XT has the tall one. They are interchangeable. Wheels: X has different rims that are reinforced to take a bit more of abuse off road (grey in color). XT has standard run of the mill XB rims (black). Bodywork: X has a headlight grill and dirt bike style front fender. Also the chin spoiler is black or yellow depending on your choice for color of the rest of the body work. XT has no headlight grill, and a standard XB front fender and chin spoiler that match the rest of the body work. Thats all i can think of off the top of my head, but there are some more minor differences. |

Minor revisions to what Froggy said: The 06 actually had an improved oil pump drive gear compared to previous XB's. The 07 added a slightly improved oil pump with more scavenging capacity. The 08 has an all-new oiling system with the oil pump driven off the end of one of the cams (gets rid of the angle gear drive used in all previous Buells and Sportsters). The 08 also has a larger diameter crank pin and a 7100 RPM redline vs. 6800 (?) on the pre-08 models. |

Hugh - thanks for clarifying. "New motor" for '08 was a bit misleading a couple posts up, it's the same basic motor but with a couple of key upgrades/differences. Of note, all Uly's have the exact same HP/tq specification throughout the years. |

08 has revised triple trees/fork mounts, not a complete new front end, or so we have been led to believe. The 08 triple trees are retrofittable to 06 and 07s. Just our $.02 Ride em |

08 XT does NOT have the new forks and trees, only the X. The forks are different. 08 X with the offset trees have an offset axle to compensate for the different fork angle, it keeps the rake/trail in line with the original geometry. (Message edited by ratbuell on July 01, 2008) |

That long list is right from HD on mechanical changes from 2007 to 2008. I found it on google a while back. I can't find one for 2006 to 2007, but i doubt its as long. |

New throttle body incorporates a pintle style Idle Air Control (IAC) unit - Just something else to cause troubles. My Dodge Ram has the IAC and its a common source of idle problems. Buell should be bare bones and simple as possible. |
