Now that Caribou Cases are in redesign mode - is there any ready to go Pelican system for the Ulysses? I'd like to have the pannier kit already on the Pelican case and use their rack or a Happy Trails or ? Jeff |

I had emailed to order a set for my Uly and Roger indicated that they are not available and a new system will be out in the summer. I asked about a trunk box and he said possibly. :-) Thats about it. |

I know you are looking for a bolt on install, but you can have a look at how I put 1500 Pelican's on my Uly here: http://picasaweb.google.com/dougmansfield1/Pelican Cases I have since installed a set of cylinder locks on the lids. They come on and off fairly easy, stay on nice and tight, but I have not put a locking latch on the case to mount yet. DougM |

I should have given a bit more detail. If you watch eBay, there is a trucking company out of Dayton, OH that sells these cases for $10 each (plus $10 shipping). The only issue is there are holes cut in them and they are dirty. My goal was to spend as little as possible to get a watertight Pelican case set. With paint and glues, I have less than $60 in them (plus the OEM rack). The paint is holding up very well, though the glazing putty has shrunk a bit and shows the outline of the plugs. DougM |

The best alternative right now seems to be to buy the 2 Pelican bags with locks etc. from Caribou and buy the rack and pucks from Happy Trails. Cases 290 Rack 255 Kit 50 Total 595 I can save a hundred by going with standard pelican cases. |

Long time lurker here. I've never felt the need to post before, but just wanted to give you a heads up on the Happy Trails rack. I bought one last December and had to drill out the holes to make it fit and then it was still a tight squeeze. It seemed like the rack itself was about 3/4 to 1 bolt width off (too big) and it's rigid metal so you couldn't flex it any to get the bolts mounted. I'm very happy with the quality of the rack, but for that kind of money, the fit wasn't acceptable. One other thing that irked me was they gave me a couple of false ship dates and it took me a few emails and got it about a month after the promised ship date. I'm not saying don't buy from these guys, I'm just letting you know you may want to verify a ship time with them if you want it in a hurry, and you may have to do some tweaking to make it fit when you get it. That being said, the build quality seems very good and the mounting kit is great. Mike |

I appreciate the heads up. I am not really looking for that experience. I'll ask HT if they have made some adjustments. Anyone put the pelicans on a Fehling rack? :-) |

This is the second time I've heard of fitment problems with Happy Trail racks. Can anyone else post their experience...positive or negative with Happy Trail? Tipsy |

My Happy Trails racks were off a little bit but all I had to do was loosen the footpeg bracket and they lined up perfectly after that. Just bolt everything in place and then tighten up the footpeg bracket again. I assume the reason for the fitment problems is variations in manufacturing tolerances of the bike itself and when Happy Trails made the jig it was done fitting perfectly on the beta bike they used, which is probably different between bikes as they are assembled at the Buell factory. I have had the same situation arise using Hepco Becker, Touratech, Jesse and various other bag brackets on numerous brand of bikes. |

Sounds no different that the fitting issues with the Buell OEM racks. The tail section will move over time. You just need to losen a few bolts that hold it to the frame so you can re adjust it. |

The pelican cases are top notch. I had to go to h&B to get the mounting brackets. Very durable, they have saved my bacon a couple of times. |
