Today I stopped by my local dealer to snatch up my neck gator. While there I was looking around the stock. They had all sorts of Buells, but in the corner was the flat silver/black sportster.

I thought it was a dealer custom model. Turns out it was the 1200n (Nightster). It was a work of art. Very clean design. Beautiful matte finish paint.

I wanted to take it home as an art piece.

Funny thing is this is the first HD that has ever caught my fancy. I like the Vrod for what it is (tech wise), but I never seriously thought about owning one.

This bike was different... It even had a reasonable price tag (~$10k).

The only complaint was the rock hard seat. It was worse than plywood.

The photo I have posted does not do it justice.

It's a sweet LOOKING bike. The only problem I had is that I couldn't ride one with forward controls and the mid controls placed my knees at my elbows.

Very uncomfortable.

If I owned it I don't think I would ride it.

I want it as a piece of living room art.

Sort of a modern take on having a piano in the room.

I demo'd one. I agree that they are BEAUTIFUL! but the ride's terrible. I hit a peg down in the parking lot at the end of the demo! The lean angles are pathetic. Also they only have about 3" of suspension travel, and the tiny gas tank. I really liked the bike, but I'd NEVER own one.

Damn pod people have got him. Soon he'll have a doo rag collection 42 rags deep, will be wearing at least 5 pieces of HD "flair" on at any given time, and parking your bike in the living room.

Sigh - I like it too - until standing next to it - the top of my kneecap is taller than the saddle.

Yeah, Dave, I think the model you saw was the 1200NS.

i agree. I like that bike too. I would change out the seat first thing. It is not a corner bike, just a bike to ride around town. the orange and black looks cool, and so does the solid gloss black.rex

ifn ya jones-in for a sporter, hold your breath, pray they build the XR1200. The nightster is ok, but it has severe handling issues. too low clearance, minimal braking, and damn thing should have rear sets, or forwards, those mid pegs are like a chimpanzee on a football uncomfortable . But I will steal a set of wheels off of it and they will find their way to my retro 57 Xl ;) It is an addiction. If I had the nightster, you know I would have to put a high pipe on it and some knobbies, go Triumph Scrambler hunting.

I don't like the xr1200, the photos I have seen make it look cheap.

What is it with you taking street bikes off road, you need professional help... When are you finally going to break down and get the Ural?

we got the powder blue/black one corporate mainly for the wife and daughter after i totalled her xbs. they wanted something different. i'm not a big sportster fan either but i've think they have done a lot better job lately with them than in the past. the controls could be somewhere else for me but i haven't heard my daughter bring up the issue yet. at first she was gonna bring it up to MBV with her but now that she is planning on moving up to appleton wi, i don't know what her plan's really are at this point.

Sportymark lives near me. Every time I go over there, he has worked some major mechanical change into his bike. He has convinced me that if you want a bike to customize, it's hard to beat a Sportster.

Here is a picture from November. It has changed to mid controls since then. : )

Picked up a front fender too.

I like it, I just wouldn't have done that to a new bike. Maybe a basket case Ironhead....

Yeah but............You can buy a perfect running sporty for $4000 & turn it into that bike for about $1000.Use the extra $5000 for a used buell.Sounds better than $10000 for HD's version of whats happening on the street.

That ironhead is close to some sort of Platonic perfection of a chopper.

It sounds like you brought it back from the dead too. That makes it even better.

Outstanding work.
