Michael Moore is far from a moron

Grumpy hit the nail on the head. He is one of the best documentary (mockumentry?) filmmakers around. Even when his views make no sense he sells it like the dickens.

This article is timed perfectly for his next film (to be released soon).
He needs to get his name into the press again, and what better way then to write about a pie in the sky idea.

Even though I don't always agree with him I have seen most of his films, laughed through a lot of them, and totally understood every time he has a motive.

I bet a lot of people here have done the exact same thing.

Remember we are on a "conservative" leaning motorcycle forum talking about him, while he is busy caressing his sizable wallet.

Who's the real chump now...

PS. I want a TGV...

Yes, but Michael Moore went off the rails on this one. Even over at hyperliberal dailykos.com a counterdiary was started to Michael's and it made the recommended list.

I would like to see high speed rail take off in this country. For medium distances, it would be faster than flying if you factor in the delays at the airport at both ends.

And it would most likely be cheaper too. And in my utopian vision of it, there would be a bar car.

Maybe even a strip bar car. You are now free to ogle about the country.

Rail does not generate enough revenue to cover operating cost. It can only survive with government subsidy. More taxes that we don't need.

That's certainly true with today's rail service, but I'm not so sure it wouldn't be profitable if it was a legitimate alternative to air travel...and NOT run by the government.

I take him with a grain of salt same as if I happen across "Rush Windbag" on the radio...

Is he over the top yes...

He's right in a lot of respects... They just gave away by building crap and product we didn't want...

Bad leadership and vision led to good hard working Americans losing their jobs..

Now What...

Retool build the cars and trucks we want.... Electric Cars and Rail what a joke...

I loaded up 8 pieces of sheet rock this weekend, last month I rented a bobcat and towed it home do some work in my yard..

Let some one try that with a smart car or electric..

Retool let these people help build our future by building sustainable energy sources like wind and solar...

Fats, the tit we need to get off is big oil....

An electric truck would have done nicely. Huge amounts of torque available all the time.

But that is beside the point. As long as gas is cheap, there will be no reason for people to switch. This is why some on the left want to set a floor oil price and invest the difference in alternative energy production.

I am not one of those global warming alarmists, but I do believe that we have used most of the oil available to us already. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when.

I hope we have the foresight to start making the transition before oil gets so scarce that it is $500 a barrel and no one can afford to drive to work or heat their homes.

Also, the fewer barrels of oil we use, the less money we send to countries that hate us.

I hope "green" energy takes off, but I don't want to see it succeed under the guise of "saving the planet" which is bunk. It doesn't have anything to do with saving the planet, it has to do with lining the pockets of the people invested in the global warming cult.

Basically, I'm for domestic energy production, whatever that ends up looking like. Drill, mine, blow or shine...as long as we're paying ourselves the money.

Hmm, "Drill, mine, blow, or shine". Consider that patented.

when do we get Star Trek transporters?
I think the whole of congress needs to be 'beamed' with no determinant destination, and no return trip.
And of course this will get all the day to day commuters off the roads, so real enthusiasts can enjoy it.

I mean as long as we are dreaming up Shiat that aint gonna happen.

Yeah, electric power, now that's an efficient, clean source of energy.
Electric power is clean at the point of consumption but maybe not so clean at the power plant where they are burning coal or creating nuclear waste. And what do we do with all the used-up batteries?

There aren't any easy answers.

It took us 100 years of oil to get to where we are. People that are looking for an overnight solution are in for a rude awakening.

I must admit, it took me a few seconds to get it. Sometimes I'm not too bright.

That must be a joke. The sun doesn't shine at night. Typically, in America, we pick on the Polish when we wish to form a joke around someone's lack of intelligence.

Yup we hack at the Paddies.

We also tell Welsh jokes (but only when there's sheep involved)

The French tell Belgian jokes & the Belgians tell French jokes, go figure.

Even if he's a whack-job,i like his idea's.

I'd like to fill the landscape with windmills. They're manufactured nearby and are cool to see the "Blades" being transported.

Another cool benefit is it's NOT cost effective to sub-out their manufacture to CHINA.WOO-HOO!! A couple of the big wind turbines have been installed in the next town over. They're really cool and ominous turning their slow RPM.

I wondered that too. It seems like it was that way in the 70's, but not so much after that.

Only problem with electric motors, is that one of the key materials needed to make them, Dysprosium, 95% of the worlds supply of it comes from China. Would would be replacing the middle east with China. How long before we get a Dysprosium version of OPEC to hold us by the balls? You can read more here

Interesting. There is a similar situation with the Lithium required for the batteries. Like I said, there isn't an easy answer.

I don't know alot about it but wind and nuclear seem to be the only real way out. I'm not getting rid of my XB or suburban but I'm all about it for mass transit and electricity.

P.S....Moore is doooosh-bag
