Mark(Wolfridgerider)and I sat at the S/F line up high to watch the race. Those first eleven laps were the most exciting racing I have seen anywhere in a long time. The first three bikes were deadlocked from the start. Every time across the line you would never know who would be the leader. Nearly every lap they crossed the line three abreast, inches apart. It was amazing.

This was not the only race of the day either. Buells kicked it in the two hour enduro Moto ST with a bunch of lead time and a podium finish for #41.

When you stand in the middle of turn 3-4 and watch them shift into high gear on the high bank up near the wall at 140+ mph, you realize the kind of talent and intestinal fortitude these two wheeled pilots have.

I have been to Daytona for the Nascar events many times. This was my first time at the Superbike event. Amazing. I know what it would take in nerve and muscle to do a lap at those speeds on that track, but to do it for hours at at time is un-real!

I will post more after I get rested up. We just had a terrific 650 mile ride back to my place. Awesome trip.

When the leader was waved around the safety car, way didn't AMA relay a message to his pit crew for him to let the safety car pass him and they wouldn't have a 3 lap cluster F.

When did Eslick pass someone when the safety car was out, why didn't AMA release the lap # and section of track?

Do the riders not have radios so the pit crew can relay the caution / safety car info to them?

Also, was the guy that smashed against the wall because of the stupid safety car injured? Who ever approved the safety car needs to receive the same injuries. A ULY XP should have been used, at least a bike so it can take the turns.

I seem to remember this being mentioned when I watched the 200 a few years ago. From what I recall, the riders do NOT have radios (it's forbidden by the rules.) They are allowed to communicate with the riders only by using placards from the pit area.

The bikes apparently do (or can) have radios that send telemetry back to the pits. When I was watching, they were using this information to determine pit stops for fuel. They had worked out that the rider could finish the race with 0.25L of fuel left, and hence he didn't need to pit. The had to tell the rider this by holding up a "No Pit" sign as he rode by.

This was all during the race where the 2 Hondas ran out of gas, and the (I think) Kawasaki team won.

Supposedly this year teams can have radio contact with the rider. At least that is what the lovely announcers said during the race. Telemetry is banned though. That was definetly in the new rules package.

Well, TECHNICALLY they put him last place for a rule infringement. Realistically, Eslick friggen rocked his socks off and battled back from 68th to 13th.}

The Cow thing is Dairyland Insurance. You have to admit, it's attention getting. You don't have to look pretty or sporty - you just have to be REMEMBERED!!!

The Erics (Pinson and Haugo) on the Antelope Valley Buell 1125R done good... except for Haugo's "foot race" when he ran dry on the return to the pits and had to push it in... ONE LAP TOO MANY? (curious to get Ozzie's report)

I'm dumb on rules and stuff, but how can the 1125's compete with 600's?

Power / Weight

Kinda the same reason that the 250cc 4t is allowed in the 125cc 2t MX & TT class

"Power / Weight"

Dalton they let the Buell run at the same weight as the 600's, seems a little unfair to me.

Call me stupid, too but I dont understand the logic behind the various classes and what bikes are allowed to run. The 1125 can be in all the AMA classes but sometimes it competes against 600's and sometimes against 1000's. The Ducati's run the 1098 in Superbike but can run a 848 in Sportbike, alongside the 1125.

The Bikes are HP limited...........The winners are Dyno'ed immediately after race , in fact they are escorted from the winners circle directly to the Dyno Truck.
The Pinson bike Dyno'ed at 126 and your allowed 130 hp.
Howdy Ferris!...It was great meeting you on top of the Fanzone Garages!

I don't get it either. I'd assume that all the 600's would run with the 600's etc. If I make an 1100+ and run it with other 1100+'s, and I can't pull the HP, that's not the competitor's fault.

So this means that Buell's 140+ hp claim is false? or are 600's making 140+ hp?

I thought that the 1125r had to run a 20lb disadvantage because of the power advantage. I will try to find where I read that. My apologies if I`m wrong!!

Eslick did great, Shawn did great, Buell did great. I'm looking forward to seeing Buell up there more.

I was having some trouble keeping interest after Eslick was out, knowing half of the best riders in AMA weren't even in the "premier" race. It's a totally f'd up deal, having the best riders split between two different classes. How much does it really mean to win the "premier" race, when Mladin, Hodgson, Hayden, etc. aren't even racing?

140 crank HP won't get you to 130 HP at the rear wheel, 125 RWHP would be very good.

If peak hp is the limiter, I'd go for the big engine that is less peaky all day long.

Ebear, I missed you dude! you left Al's calling card on my bike. I called him to see if he was in the area and he told me it was probably you doing the card dropping.

Wolf's bike was the black one right beside mine. My orange one had the Buell banner over the B.A.W. right near the Fan Zone entrance.

You probably didn't see Al's sticker on the back of my bike.

Until we see Buells run 1,2,3 in every race in AMA, I don't think we have much to worry about regarding the 20lbs.

Adding weight to even things out is simple enough to do.

If there were a bike that weighed 182lbs and was producing 60hp, would we be complaining that it had an unfair advantage over a bike that weighed 365lbs and produced 120hp? They have the same power to weight ratio.

What if the Ducati team were importing special pygmies to ride that only weighed 68lbs?

The race looked competitive between the IL4 bikes and Buell for the first 10 laps to me.

125RWHP will not give you 180mph+ trap speed. These bikes are dancing at a faster tempo.
