I am going to replace the crankcase cap screws with SS cap screws, I noticed they have small washers on them are they necessary?  | ||

Necessary? No. Good engineering practice? Yes. Prevents corrosion between the base of the cap screw and the aluminum crankcase. Used on Lil' Blackie? Need you ask?  Please note that the factory torque settings for some fasteners, especially for the clutch and primary inspection ports seem to be a bit high, and several brothers have stripped the threads in the aluminum. If memory serves, the factory screws for the clutch inspection port are a bit short, and that may have contributed to the stripped thread problem. So be careful, use blue Loctite, and all should be well. |
