I've always wanted to get a 1980 'vette.

I love them huge arching fenders...

What might you have?

My little brother has an 84 Black and silver (should be silver on silver) T-Top that my dad and I re-did the motor and a partial restoration and my dad has a 69 LeMans blue T-top that has been fully restored.

Corvette: A PIECE OF THE ACTION, published in 1978 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of America's favorite sports car, 224 pages, rich full-color photography, large format (9-5/8" x 12-1/4"), bound in red genuine Corvette seat leather, certified first edition (#478, and the certificate is still a virgin), written by Bill Mitchell (one of the LEGENDARY Corvette designers) and Allan Girdler (one of my favorite motojournalists, frequent contributor to Cycle World magazine).

this book is MINT.

and i'm the original owner.

this baby's just a few months shy of 30 years old, from back in the days when i had a PAIR of Corvettes in my stable ('69 350/350 4-speed Roadster with factory side exhaust and both tops, and '72 LT-1 - what a motor! - 4-speed Roadster with both tops. alas, that was SO last century...)

this is real history here, folks, and i reckon it's pretty rare, especially since i've got all the original paperwork. you want facts, it's here. you want history, it's here. you want color photographs - LOTS and LOTS of color photographs - it's here.

you wanna cop a VERY serious 'Vette buzz? this book will keep you high for a long, long time.

i REALLY don't want to get rid of it.

but Matt Ware didn't want to get terminal brain cancer, either.

i'm gonna list this book on BadWeB's Matt Ware Benefit Auction, UNLESS...

...unless one of you Corvette fanatics out there makes me a "Buy It Now!" offer i can't refuse.

you better be serious, and you better dig deep.

let me know.

also, do you still have any pics of your twins?

my 69, correction my dads 69 is a stripper. its the 350/350 with the 4 speed but manual steering manual brakes, bare bones car. the old options on it are factory alarm and deep tint glass.

My brothers 74 has a few more options, its a smog motor 350 (all hail the EPA!!) with an auto trans, power steering, power brakes, AC, power windows. But it was painted black and needs to be silver to be correct. still needs some TLC.

yeah, buried away. i've moved a half a dozen times since then, from Washington State clear to Virginia, and each time stuff like this gets buried a little deeper as a result.

my '69 was also a "stripper," manual steering and brakes, roll-up windows, real basic muscle car. about the only option was the factory side exhaust, which made the most delicious sound. the left exhaust outlet sits about two feet from your left ear and points almost straight down. what a racket this car made!

in fact, my '69 reminds me of a tube-frame Buell, rude and crude and demanding respect. the '69 was an absolute truck of a car, steering by Armstrong, not a creature comfort to be found.

it existed for one purpose: to paint a permanent grin on the driver's face. kinda like a certain '98 White Lightning i used to own (one which the SLeeZ is very chummy with these days ;) )

my (first ex-wife's) LT-1 was a velvet hammer in comparison. even tho the compression ratio was stepped all over in Chevy's engine arsenal beginning in 1971, the '71 and '72 LT-1's were still rated at 335 hp, and this, it is widely believed, was a very conservative rating.

this motor would absolutely DANCE, and was sneak-up-behind-you-and-smack-you-with-a-hammer fast. i drove this car at 7,000 rpm in third gear for about 30 minutes one night (couldn't get it up into fourth - the road was pretty technical and wouldn't support the additional speed), and sang one of the most glorious mechanical symphonies of my life.

where as the '69 was a brute, trash-talking and rough around the edges (and everywhere else!), the LT-1 was a silk-skinned seductress, sweet, smooth and nasty, and i don't care HOW faithful you tried to be, when you drove this car you were GUARANTEED to be bad.

geez, i've got Corvette stories swimming around in my brain right now like no tomorrow.

ever since i said goodbye to my '69 (a million years ago), i've regretted that decision, and have vowed since that day to have another.

it ain't happened yet, but it's gonna...

Tq_freak, keep me posted. if your Dad is as big a Corvette whacko as i am, he's gonna want this book. : )

Ten years ago I was frequently found at Corvette shows all around Florida with my '79 super shiny red stocker and my '94 even more super shiny aqua with white pearl stripes LT1.

My son and I got to do Sebring track touring and drag racing, and auto-cross stuff. We did shows all over and it got to the point of boredom after two and a half years.

I had a couple more early in my career, a '69 coupe and a '71 T-top LT1 4 speed, but they were just worn out cars back then.

I had a 1962 Corvette way back in the 1970's, virgin ragtop (no mounting holes for the hard top as they all should be ;) ). Wish I'd have kept it, still think about getting another one some day, then I look at the prices they're going for these days and then promptly forget about it.

A very nice offering.

btw, the Certificate of First Edition isn't 100% virginal.

some guy by the name of William L. Mitchell wrote on it...

For all Vette lovers. Here is an old picture of my '68 427,425 4 speed stripper also. A few simple mods for better "street driving" and exactly why I love my 2002 M2. Its muscle and handling and clearly not a true racer but just a FUN ride and the most fun you can have on the street and highways. Not particularly sofisicated in any way just pure performance in a simple easy to care for package. Wish I had the money for a new Z06. Corvette/Buell......beautiful. Bob

Geez, this picture is 25 years old! My 1967 327 AC coupe, 1973 L82 couple, and 1982 Superglide. Sold the '67 a coupe of years later but kept both th bike and '73 ~17 more years.
