For me to adjust my rear shock do I have to buy the Buell tool or can I just plasti-kote a wrench so I do not scratch it up?

If you have a big enough wrench, go for it. Otherwise go to home depot & get an angled pipe wrench without any serrations on the jaws. It costs about $22 or so & works great.

I just use my pipe wrench to loosen the lock nut and turn the can by hand.
