Ran a routine update to the board software early Friday morning. No big deal just a few updated files. Well the updated files caused the search utility for recent posts or posts since the last search to run really really slowly, to the point of not being able to complete within alloted server CPU usage times.
In trying to diagnose teh problem we were advised to reindex and rebuild the entire board.
That is what was causeing the downtime, the whole board gets locked down during those procedures and it takes a while to clean and re-index and rebuild 4 GB of web site discussion board.
Unfortunately all that work (automated within teh board software) didn't solve the problem.
I could reinstall the old version files, but we need to diagnose the problem.

Blake...Thanks for the explanation. Wasn't sure if it was my new computer or the BWB.
Whew, looks like I have one less thing for the computer guru to work on this week. |

And here I was blaming the whole darn thing on Ferris. I figured he had caused an immeasurable amount of jealously to flow from all points of the BadWeB compass toward southern California and as all that jealously passed through Texas it just knocked the BadServer on it's knees. My bad. |

Although it was happening on all of them.
