John (V2Win) and I were kicking this around and want to see what everyone's thoughts are...Rather than going back to the Gap next year we were thinking of holding a regional in the Ozark mountains of north western Arkansas...This would seem to have the advantage of being more centrally located and would be more available to the Buellers in TX and CO...Maybe even some left coasters (Ferris, are you listening?)...Take us back to our roots, so to speak, as I believe the first company organized Buell rally was held in Arkansas...I may even be able to arrange for us to have about two hours of open go-kart track time on Saturday night and then dinner...Let us know what you think?...

See Ya!

I would sure be able to attend an Arkansas rally. It would be easier for me. I have heard that there are some great roads there. Count me in for sure if you do.
Do we bring our own sisters or can we use theirs. Those guys in North Carolina don't share.

I think the central location would be beneficial to more buellers nation-wide. and I will personally vouch for and contribute to ride selections in the area. Having been to the Gap and various places in Colorado and Arkansas specifically for Riding, I can personally tell you that you won't be dissappointed with this area.

Racerboy....make it so.

I can assure you that Deal's Gap, in terms of twisties and great riding, holds nothing over Arkansas. One of the best kept secrets in the nation.

Personally I think a meeting here in Newfoundland would go over great. I would not have to travel too far either.

I have a house kinda near Deal's Gap, so that's more convenient, but...

I like the Arkansas idea. Change of scenery and a chance to do a little "sport-touring".

BTW, the Internet BMW Riders have a get-together at Branson, MO - some really FUN roads near there!

Hell with buying tickets,

Ride here, Its the most eastern edge of North America.

Not that far, this past summer there was a silver S3 from New York here and a guy on a green S3T here from North Carolina, was his second time here in two seasons and said he liked the scenery.

I really wanna ride the GAP though, wonder how long it would take to ride there and back.

Maybe Rocket could swim here????

Bill...From what I've seen and read it must be really beautiful and I bet the seafood's not bad either!...Soooo, John, would Newfoundland make a good warm up for AK?...Bill, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't NF (how do you abbreviate it?) an island and if so, about how many miles of paved roads are there?...

See Ya!

Here are some facts about the island and I can guarantee that you would definately NOT tour this island in two weeks. Hell I am here 32 years and there are parts I only visited this past summer. Due to the fact that most of our secondary highways follow the coastline of the island the roads around here are some of the best.

I took this off the Provincial Government Web Site at www.gov.nf.ca Total Land area is 405,720 km2 - more than three times the total area of the Maritime Provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island).

Newfoundland and Labrador would rank fourth in size behind Alaska, Texas and California...if it were one of the United States.

It is almost one and three quarters times the size of Great Britain.

Area of the Island of Newfoundland - 111,390 sq km
Area of Labrador - 294,330 sq km

To drive across the island on the main highway it takes about 12-14 hours and is about 800km, but the main highway is boring and I recommend the secondary highways.

If any of the fellow Buell riders ever come up this way next summer be sure to drop me a line so I can take some time off from the office to show you guys around.

Now Deals Gap could be a possibility (gotta love mapquest) would take me about 4 days of riding (12 hr days) to get there (of course that would be at the posted speed limit)

Blake, my apologizes for getting off topic here.

Cool, on my way to Arkansas, I could map my route through Bob's fabulous WV extremes, then through Virginia's Hungry Mother run :`) , then through the Boone/Linville, NC area, then through the gap area and N Georgia, then head west to Arkansas! I've got it all mapped out. Anyone bringing a tire changer and balancer to Arkansas??
After all those twisties, I'll need it when I get there.

Bob,
how much further do I "have" to ride this time?

BTW I saw in an old post you wondered how I got to Dg from the west.

I went west as it kept me on superslab and I didn't have much time for sight-seeing. Deals Gap is a straight shot down from Cleveland.

I've never been to Arkansas, so what the hell. Now I really need to do something with that seat!

Just make sure John takes off 6 hrs after you do . In case I need some divine guidance

Bill...You're not off topic, you're interesting...

Dave...Well, they're not exactly "my extremes" as I read about most of them but John and I did stumble on Hungry Mutha to Frog Level on our own (you know, the blind pig thing)...Ask us about the REST OF THE STORY of that day some time when you have a week...Only time I've been scuba diving on a moto...

Ed...Yea, your right...The Ozarks don't have the elevation so I'll meet you at DGMR sometime next summer...

Matt...Take a flare gun!...We'll find ya...

All...Les has something real nice planned for next October so watch for your Nov issue of Fuell...She's still in search mode so it could change but if it plays out it will be great...She and Leigh are off next week to investigate but ya gotta remember they're newlyweds so...Hmmmmm!

See Ya!

Keith...Well, yeah, but I can't say yet...All will be revealed in the next Fuell...Les made me promise but it's a real neat place...Does the name Horace Greeley mean anything to you?...That will get you oriented in the right direction from Quincy but not from Boise...And it's not 100 percent certain...She and Leigh are out on a scouting mission as I write this...Anyway, why worry, Heather will never let you go!...

Bob,

I should definately have earned enough bonus points by then to at least make one maybe two trips this year! :) plus we have discussed postponing our Sept plans until march 04 for scheduling purposes!! :) Her suggestion not mine! ;)

NOW YOU REALLY HAVE ME CONFUSED!! LOL

You have confused me more on the national than I allready was!!! damn it!!! lol Greeley was born in New Hampshire. Did his apprenticeship in Vermont and became a founding editor of the NY tribune. He traveled overland to california encouraging western settlement and a railroad to the pacific coast. Don't ask me how I know this crap. lol (let me just give you a hint though. I have a political science degree. He helped found the political party that I oppose in nearly every election and then ran for president on the ticket I normally support and lost to Stl's native president! :) )

So that pretty much tells me it will be somewhere between NY and California!!! At least I know I won't have to take a boat or a plane there!!! LOL

thanks for all the help BOB!!
Keith

p.s. I would venture to guess you really mean the famous quote that he is thought to have written but never actually did. "GO WEST, YOUNG MAN" so my assuption is that it is somewhere between the mississippi river and boise idaho. ;)

Arkansas, having ridden both, is better. Deal's Gap is neat and fun. But it's akin to riding a roller coaster with two-way traffic on the "Danger v. Fun" scale.

Arkansas has roads that are 97% of Deal's Gap in terms of twistiosity and elevation change (Santa Cruz Mtns <specifically Empire Grade> are the BEST elevations changes, with Oakville Grade <Hwy 29 near Claistoga> being a close 2nd) and they become more attractive when the lighter traffic is factored in (hint: time accordingly).

In terms of Buell Attrition: There were 9 of 60 Buell sacrificed to the Gods at the last B.R.A.G. event in Arkansas. I understand that 5 Firebolts were "Lightning Struck" at Deal's Gap.

Ride accordingly......
