Can anyone confirm the pictured wire is coming from the stator, inside the primary? If so, I'm trying to figure out if there's an easy way to plug the leak.

I recently repaired the transmission, replaced the grenade plate, and cleaned up the starter motor. Now there's a new spot where oil is pooling, behind the rear cylinder. I think it might be coming from where that wire is coming out of the primary.

Is it possible to plug that without opening up the primary case itself?

Best way is to open it up, pull that stator plug out coat it in black RTV and push it back in...

I recommend putting some insulation tube over those exposed stator wire to protect them from the heat. I was able to do mine without removing the starter. My old stator wires got brittle and the insulation fell off in chunks. It caused electrical mayhem.

You're going to have to pull the primary cover to get the starter out anyway, since it'll be in the way of your attempt to seal the plug from the back side. It could also be that the starter gasket is leaking. It's paper, and having them leak is not all that uncommon.
