Ok guys, I finally got my starting pictures uploaded. I will add photos as I progress on the resuscitation of my poor bike. It has been sitting for 5 years of which the last 10 months of that was someones back yard under a row of oak trees outside! I have started the tear down and have gotten it running at least. The body panels are at a friends of mine that does stellar restoration work(If you ever want someone in the southeast to do your stuff shoot me a line he is AWESOME!). Anyway here are the pics of how I found it when I bought with only 9,800 miles in it. : ( it.

Nice, mine was found in the same condition except sitting outside longer, the white cleans up good.

Looks fairly complete. Having the rear hugger and belt guard intact is a plus.

If I'm not mistaken, you have the earlier billet triples. Later '95s and all others had cast triples.

I don't think I did. I think what I said was "it had been sitting for at least a couple years" I just recently noticed the 2009 Inspection sticker which lead me to believe the most it could have sat was 5 years. I don't know for SURE it has been sitting for 5 years. Lol, I live in NC just because it had not been inspected does not mean no one had been riding it! ; )

I stripped down a bike that had set outside for a lot less time than yours. Some of the bolts that hold on to the side plate rusted. Actually many were rusted. It's not something I've used too often in the past, but for a project like this heat is your friend!
I spent hours drilling out one sideplate bolt that had stripped. Afterwords, I noticed you can access the threads from behind, (inside the frame). Recommend you hit those areas with your penetrating oil of choice as soon as you get the chance.

One thing about those side plate bolts, make sure to use the right size Allen and as short as you can. My bike sat for 5 years before I got it (but not outside) and yet I was able to remove the side plates without penetrating oil, by using a 3/8" drive Allen bit and ratchet, since the Allen head was less than 2" long, it didn't flex and bend from all the torque put on it. I had similar success on my rotor bolts by sticking an Allen wrench in them and then tightening an adjustable end wrench on the Allen right up against the head of the bolt so the Allen couldn't flex.

Kroil is the best penetrating oil I have ever used in 45 years. I've been using it for about 15 years now. The other brands laying around the garage like CRC, Liquid wrench, PB, and several others went in the trash. Removing my side plate bolts was a problem. A hex bit socket with a ratchet was useless as the bolts needed "shocked" to break them free. A hand held impact tool that you strike with a hammer worked perfectly with just a couple of hammer blows. No damage to the bolt hex pockets either. When I took the bolts out, the tapered portion of the underside of the heads were horribly corroded and were stuck to the aluminum tapers in the plates. I cleaned everything up and put a really light film of copper anti-sieze on the bolt tapers and threads when I re-installed them. I've had them out once since then and they came out easily and smoothly.

Never used Kroil, but we have "CRC Knocker Loose" at work. According to my work mates it has the same smell as Kroil. It removes just about anything seized up. We spray it on, wait 20 minutes and viola, it comes out. We do sometimes have to "shock" it by tapping on it with a hammer.

I've never tried the "Knocker Loose" CRC. I've tried the regular CRC in the past. It's interesting that it may smell like Kroil and I read that it is a reddish color. That sounds exactly like Kroil. Kroil has a very unique smell that is odd, but not offensive like PB and some others. It's also interesting that the CRC comes in exactly the same 8 ounce can with the spout that Kroil comes in. I wonder if Kano Labs supplies CRC with Kroil re-branded in the CRC packaging.....

Ok, fellas I took it on someones opinion to just ride the damn thing for awhile and see if it was just due to seals being dried up. I think they may be right. I've rode it two days in a row now and the smoking is down to a minimum now. I think with some road time it'll work itself out. Hopefully. Damn I wished my guy would hurry up with the body panels I'm dying to ride it now. Lol, here are some short vids of it getting a little street time.

Oh, about the penetrating oil subject. My father in-law passed away in 2010 and he had a machine shop which is next door and I've always been welcome to use it and obtain a few items here and there. : ) The best stuff I have ever used is the stuff he used as a machinist. It is called "CSC Super Penetrant". The cans look like they are from the 70's so I went online to find it and low and behold the company doesn't exist anymore. : ( Anyways, if you ever run across any at an auction, yard sale or what have you buy it all. It is the best stuff I've EVER used.
