I think part of the stylistic disconnect some of us have between the robotic looking angular lines of the more modern bikes and the older styles (like the S1) is generational. Many of the new bikes for sale today on the dealers' showroom floors are built to appeal to younger males between the age of 18 and 33, or so. To me, the bikes look just like the transformer toys sold within the past 20 years or so. I don't think that's an accident, and I don't think it's any accident that so many younger guys are attracted to the angular/transformer look. The bikes are grown up versions of their childhood toys. But somewhere in the mix, the desire for that styling gets confused by attempting to meld it with another style that is incompatible and incongruent. You end up with a motorcycle "brundlefly" instead. My opinion, but I think it's actually happening on some level.

In a way General, that's what the whole big three retro car fad was all about, e.g, the Charger, Challenger, Mustang, PT, and yes even the Camaro (although not as much). We are all just big kids now with more money trying to keep our childhoods alive.

IMHO, not a bad thing! ; )

maybe your right... maybe it doesnt fit with the rest of the bike.

its still a great looking tail imo. i dont think it will flow well with the tank after comparing two bikes side by side at similar angles.

maybe i will just trim my fairing to make it a little more modern.

Speed of Color has a beautiful tail in my opinion for the s1. It modernizes the rear section without to drastic of a change. Only issue is that its $500 plus.

You've got to put the image in a cold pool of water. That is, shrink it. ; )

Tasteless! Me?

An S1 tail is a vision of deep beauty in motorcycle styling. It's as iconic to Buell as is an XR750 tail to Harley. In fact, the S1 tail was inspired by the XR tail.

Who inspired the 'ghost face' tail. Wes Craven?

In my opinion, the SOC seat refines while keeping with the original ethos of the bike. When I decided on an S1 it was the picture of the SOC that made me take the leap.

The SOC tail is pointed, which removes any trace of the wonderful simplicity of the flat track-esque style Buell intended.

Then it is flipped up in similar fashion to the craze that swept the UK custom scene a few years ago, spawned by the Straightliners drag race series where contestants (mop) would wheelie down the strip to showboat. Their seats getting ever more silly as the craze gripped.

Here's a pic of said craze done well I suppose. Just never appealed to me. Perhaps because I always saw it as non functional, read stupid. Marmite comes to mind.

I have the Speed of color S1 Tail. You have to cut the loop of the end of the frame and relocate the ECU.
