This has probably been said before.

I pulled up to a dive this evening on the old X1. Only bike there. I went inside took my junk off, placed my order with the keep then came out front for a drag.

A guy who knows me, but didn't see me come in and didn't know I owned a Buell comes over and mumbles "Oh, I gotta check this Buell out". I follow him quietly over to my bike. He begins to say " I wish I could find a wrecked one of these so I can take the motor and the tranny and stick'em in a Redneck Hardtail Chopper".

I said to him "people like you with ideas like that make me sick".

That's all.

At least he said he wanted a wrecked one.

He could have said: "These bikes are so cheap to buy now that I plan to cannibalize a nice one for the motor and sell the rest of the junk".

I always feel nauseous when arguing with stupid people.

Never argue with stupid people. They bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

I just ask "why do you want to take a strong engine out of something that rides, handles, and brakes really well...and stick it in something thats gonna ride and handle like shit?".

The one time I knew the guy thinking about it...I tossed him my key. He rode my S1W for about 20 minutes and came back, handed me the key, and said "I'll never tear one of these apart". (He had a few other colorful compliments that I can't post on badweb). Couple months later he was in for a back tire...for an M2 that he bought and loved to death. "Its all your fault", he accused me...I'll take the blame for that any day!!

I just don't see why one would bother to find a wrecked buell to take the motor. Just find any ego sporty motor and tear it down and do a rebuild...

You can find sportster motors for not too much just about everywhere...

Anybody ambitious enough to build their own bike, instead of just watching Orange County Choppers, is ok in my book. No accounting for taste, even bad taste.
Just like Harleys, almost nobody leaves Buells stock. Once you've 'customized' by changing out 50 things, its only a matter of degree of how much 'original Buell' is left.

lol!

Well, my S3T is pretty close to stock (race ecm and upgraded muffler and Works Shock), and I am working every day to replace the "lost" parts the previous owner removed.

Now my Sportster looks stock (minus the exhaust and air cleaner), but will downright smoke my S3T due to engine and exhaust upgrades. That is until I hit the twisties.

I say if you are going to rescue an engine for a project, more power to you. If you are going to hack up a perfectly good bike, sell it and then buy the parts separately.

OCC doesn't build bikes, they paint clones.

Owning my first Buell has created an addiction. I find myself looking for unwanted Buells everywhere I go. If I had the cash and space to park them, I would own one of each model.

I have my Cruiser (sportster) and my bagger (S3T) (lol! shoot me) and now I need a racer (Not sure which model yet).

Jayvee I agree with you. How many things besides the air in the tires do you have to change before it is not considered a STOCK BUELL. There are too many of us that like to customize just to make it YOURS. But very few that really have a Buell that keep it really truely Stock. For instance- exhaust, jetting, shocks (front or rear), intakes/air cleaners, handlebar/clipons, front or rear pulleys, upgraded upper boxes, shift/brake levers, etc. etc. etc. and don't even go there if it has original gaskets vs. the new upgraded ones. I guess I really just like bikes. If it were not for people that wanted something better looking, faster, smoother, better performance or just plain different would Erik have even done what he has done??? The only thing in life that is for sure is that it will change. Just ride and appreciate the day and your companions.
