I think Mikethediebetic and Buellistic both have great ideas here.

My next one will be made from an elbow from a muffler shop and it will be longer for torque as Buellistic recommends.

The AIR CLEANER size is important, "BUT" most important is how the air flows into the entrance of the intake track !!!

The SNORKLE is about as perfect as you can get !!!

The length of the intake tract is really the only variable that can be changed on-demand. That's why most modern cars have variable length intake runners to minimize the compromise between low RPM torque and high RPM power. BMW inline-6 has a switch in the intake manifold that opens around 3.5K RPM and almost doubles the length of the intake runners. Simple physics.

Mr. Buell did a similar thing with the muffler(exhaust control)on the XB Models !!!

On a related note an article in Hot Bike mag showed a guy doing a dyno tune on a bagger with a cone-type intake and two exhaust analyzers. He said the intake worked best pointed straight up :-/

These bikes are about as advanced as a sledgehammer, and in my opinion, the few HP loss is well worth it casue they just look damn good without the breadbox on 'em.

With out the AIR BOX the engine looks like another SPORTSTER engine !!!

Pointing the tube forward gives the appearance (illusion?) of a 'ram-air' effect going on.
This wouldn't be detectable on a dyno sitting still, without some special set up.

SPECIAL SET UP is TEST and TUNE at the RACE TRACK or on the street in the RPM range that you ride ...

To me a DYNO is to get in the BALL PARK ...

There is nothing like a FUEL/AIR GAUGE and a ride in the real world !!!
