well my rear plug is light grey almost white but my AFV is 91 after my last ride. i know the info is based off of the rear cylinder so why would look like it is running lean when the ecmspy is telling me it is a cu#$ hair rich?? any input is helpful thanks. The bike runs awesome except when it gets hot with REALLY hard riding then it kinda spluters when i pin it from low rpm. again thanks for any input

Do you know for sure that you injector "O" rings, intake manifold seals, injectors match, and the rear header gasket are good ???

well i do not know about the injector o rings,i do THINK that my intake seals are ok i checked with carb cleaner,INJECTORS MATCH????, and i have tested my rear exhaust gasket and feel no leaks and i put new exhaust gaskets on 1 month ago with the new unbent header. what do you mean by injectore match and i plan on replacing my intake seals very soon just for the hell of it. the bike as you know buellistic onl has 16000 very hard miles on it ohh and my last ride was up to the catskills in NY and i am in southern pa so the last 65 miles of the ride home was in a freakin down pour for 2 hours.

LaFayette i do not as of now have a parts manual for my bike. was wondering if you had the PN's for the intake seals and the seal rings for the throttle body, and while there might as well go get the injector O rings .

My '01 X-1 began to run 'heavy', and would miss once in a while, like one cylinder was not firing on a random basis. No intake leak symptoms, so I did a TPS reset, and noticed the AFV was at 89. Reset AFV and TPS, and the problem soon returned. So ....

Per the service manual, took off the airbox stuff so I could see into the intake manifold. Left the throttle body on. Hold the throttle wide open, and turn the key on for 2 seconds, then off for 2 seconds. Repeat 5 times. With a strong light (and maybe a mirror on a stick), look in the intake manifold for raw fuel.

In my case, the rear injector had a slight stain around it, meaning the injector was 'drooling'. Since the 02 sensor is on the rear cyl, I believed the excess fuel was skewing the AFV, causing a lean condition. Swapped the injectors front for rear, added fuel injector cleaner, reset the AFV, and all was well as I waited for new injectors.

Might be worth a try ..... Dave

rear cyl is lean, and the ecm has leaned out the mixture, check the 02 sensor, and the ecm
you may have another issue but with a lean plug reading and an afv of 92% the ecm "thinks" that the rear is rich...

injector orings should be changed with manifold seal

BAD rear header gasket will cause the 02 sensor to richen the fuel mixture ...

So with an AFV of 91 your ecm is seeing a rich condition in the rear cylinder in the "learned fuel" area---a really small area on the tubers. Intake leaks and bad o-rings would cause a lean condition and AFV would skew the other way.Likely cause is engine temp sensor telling motor it is cold and adding fuel .
And remember,that rich area can be small but it will cause ecm to lean out entire map causing lean areas elsewhere.

well after riding today for about an hour the afv is 94 and the plugs look a darkgrey .

I believe anything between 95-105 is considered acceptable. Even variations in gas quality and ethanol content could affect AFV by that much.

well after todays ride it was at 96 AFV with dark grey plugs ,and head temp and IAT temp withen 2 degrees C off eachother so i guess it was just being a buell and figuring things out, thanks guys.

My IAT and head temp are never within 200 degrees F of each other. Typical numbers are 380F head temp, 110F IAT, check your temp sensors.
