My Y2K Cyclone's clutch hub is pretty notched up. I'm wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket hub that is more robust, of a higher quality aluminum/pot metal than the cast junk in there now.

I pulled the clutch to replace it due to poor clutch engagement, this is probably why. Fiber plates measure out just fine for wear, steels do not look discolored or warped in any way. Spring plate looks fine as well. Kind of put out about having bought a new clutch so I had parts on hand once I had it apart. Money wasted, grrr

25,000 miles on the bike for those that may be wondering.

That's weird. My X1 clutch lasted til 50,000 miles before the "grenade plate" made me replace the plates.
As far as I know, my clutch bearings are original.
You may have a lemon from the factory.
I would suggest getting a stocker if you can find one.

Nate, thanks for your input but stronger and lighter hub cnc'd from billet 5-6000 series aluminum will be my favorite and first option.

Factory cast junk metal is my last option.

Bearings are fine too, as is the outer basket... it's just the inner hub that is all notchy.

Online search is not turning up anything definitive. Poop, poopy, poo, I'm peeved. My other Buell (XB) is not running atm either and I just sold my truck.

American Legends is a reseller of the big boys like Custom Chrome, Drag Specialties, who are themselves aggregators of a lot of small manufacturers who don't want the hassle of retail. CC and DS don't do retail either, thus American Legends online sellers. If you have any local shop you like you can order all the same things through them. If you don't have a local, Am. Legends often has the best online price. I've ordered couple things from them, no problem. Lately a local place, California Sport Touring will beat or match their price, so I'd rather pay sales tax instead of shipping, in order to keep it local.

Thank you Jayvee, that is good to know. I'll have a local shop I like check out those parts suppliers then!

Nate, I'm thinking of putting the stock clutch parts back in until the grenade plate grenades, or maybe just replace it with two steels and a fiber. Do you know if 50K is about the max life for that spring plate? Prolly best to just swap it out for regular plates and not risk damage to my hub again, right?

Good to know, thanks Thylacine.
I have to wonder if there's a benefit to the spring plate or if it's just extra engineering going on there?

The frustrating thing about the "grenade plate" issue is my clutch worked PERFECTLY up to that last day.
Then more than half of the plates were bad.

I need to swap out my "new" clutch as it is a stock style with the stupid plate already in there.

I wish I kept the old good plates. I could have swapped it out right from the start.
I just didn't know it was a possible thing to do at the time!

I keep reading of grenade plate issues on here but have NEVER heard of anybody in the UK having that problem. 57K on my X1 with no clutch problems at all and just the worn first gear dogs that jump on setting off but it's done that for the last 30K so i'm not going to worry about it :-)
