M2 won't crank over, when I hit the start button just her the starter relay clicking. Battery is good, starter newer, checked grounds, kick stand bypassed. I have replaced the relay in the past and it fixed it, new relay this time but no go??

I have the same problem,have been following advice from sparky, he is very knowledgeable but so far it still hasn't started???though not had a proper day at it yet,but get in touch with sparky for help.

Is the click coming from the relay, or the starter?

If it is from the starter area (solenoid) I ended up replacing the starter and that was at about 8K. I did all the stuff you did up to that point also. Well it has been fine since. The starter replacement was the last thing I wanted to do but it ended up being the problem.

My click is from the relay,have replaced both relays,from a vauxhall corsa,and had the diodes checked,so far it still refuses to start,going to get earth and positive leads checked,have bought a new battery, i need a good day at it but just not had the time to trace the fault.

wiggle your ignition switch while holding the start button. Current for the starter solenoid runs through the ignition, and the tuber ignitions are notoriously flaky.

Good advice on the ignition.

If not that check the connections for the voltage reg that run under the bottom of the cam cover. There is a bullet connector down there with a silicone sleeve around it, mine rusted up a few years ago and the bike acted similar to yours.

Also put a voltmeter on the battery, and read the V when sitting and when cranking. More than a couple V drop indicates either a system draw somewhere, or a weak (yes, they can be DOA and still show 12v) battery.

Hi ratbuell,thanks but the bike will not crank,when the starter button is pressed there is a click from the relay under the seat but nothing else?will check the ignition switch and bullet connection as advised when i get some free time.

Your battery can have 12 volts, "BUT" what turns your starter is CRANKING "VOLTS" or amps depending how you wish to discuss it !!!

BATTERY Class 101, just PM me for a copy ...

Thanks,have tried 3 different batteries, the old one,the new one and one from a big Honda that's starts,all i get is a click from the relay under the seat but nothing else.

Well first of all are you getting voltage to the lead going to the starter for the solenoid? Read the voltage there when you hit the starter button. If you have that your starter is most likely bad. Let us know what that does.

There are two coils in the starter solenoid housing ( kinda shaped like a doghouse, with the big blunt point out the right ) You should see continuity from the starter S terminal ( the one getting juice from the relay when you hit the switch ) to the M terminal ( motor lead to the motor )which is your pull-in coil, and also continuity from the S terminal to ground, which is the hold-in coil. I'll measure mine later tonight and get you some ohm values.
I'm not going to tell anyone not to replace a starter, but 95% of this starter's parts are interchangeable with a small toyota starter. You can buy replacement plungers, coils, contacts, etc, and chances are your local mom-pop alternator shop can fix it.
