I know this has been discussed before, but looking for any new input. I have a set of the regular gel grips from Al at American Sport Bike on my 99 X1. I need a little more vibration damping and maybe a larger diameter. I was looking at the 5662 Thick Gel grips from Al. Any opinions appreciated, I do wear an XL glove, for comparison of grip diameter compared to what I have now. Thanks. | ||

What's your idle set? My bike used to shake my eyeballs out of their sockets at a stoplight, until I turned it down to 900-950. I guess that's not the grips though. Gel should be good; the old style 'Superbike' Foam should be good. I have the Traction, and like the barrel shape to the grips. It's similar to the old-fashioned 'Grand Touring' grips, which I associate for some reason with Guzzi Ambassadors, which would also be good. Right now, I'm looking at some Vibranator inserts, and some Vortex Bar-end Sliders for my M2. Every little bit helps. | ||

I was just looking at the American Sport Bike site before jumping over here. The factory grips are way too small for my hands, they seem to put all the pressure across one narrow part of my palm. It's not the vibration that gets to me, it's my weight on them. My H-D had some big thick grips, but I wasn't leaning on them either, so not sure if these grips are the answer. Question for all: Are they difficult to put over the factory bars and throttle tube? Thx | ||

Idle is about 1100, give or take a little up or down. I think it may be a combo effect for me with weight, like Coxster said, and the Ulnar nerve in the hand. I had similar issues mountain biking from pressure at bar end of hands. I went to swept back handle bar and the issue was gone. The one grip in cycling that works well for some is the Ergon, the end fans out like a paddle under the heel of your hand and provides larger contact patch to distribute weight. I had no problems replacing the stock grips, cut 'em off, used the old hairspray trick in the new grips and they went right on. | ||

Go get yerself some grips from a japanese dealership. The kind with a layer of foam covered in leather are pretty good for damping the vibes. Some dirtbike grips are squishy too. +1 on the idle set to 950 I have had it set that way for 80,000 or so miles. |
