Chris at Wild Prairie HD (Eden Prairie, MN) rebuilt the top end on my bike last year. Did great work! Unfortunately he has left the dealership. Does anyone know where he went or how to reach him?

If not, any recommendations for a good Buell mechanic in the Twin Cities?

Thank you!

Hey, I resemble that! : ) Mark- take Brad up on that. I've worked on 4 of my family's Buells at his place....well worth the time to learn how to do your own work, and Brad knows his stuff!

...and if you end up over there when I can join, then you'll meet new Buellers too!

I hear this all the time, and to be fair it should be made clear this is not as simple as it sounds. It takes a lot of time, energy and expense to become one's own mechanic- especially one that's competent. And that's assuming someone has the basic skill set and aptitude for mechanical work.

It's a worthwhile goal, but honestly not one that everyone can simply pick up and be successful. That's why there are schools for this line of work.

Thanks Andy!
I should have said "Watch, Learn AND Do".
That's the very best way to learn.

Red, I totally agree. I've seen that way too many times. "Book smart" doesn't always translate into "hand smart" if you know what I mean.
We had a classmate when I was in electronics school. We called him Dennis the Test Menace. He messed up the curve for most everyone. They guy killed EVERY test. But when he was in the lab, he couldn't prototype a circuit and get it running to save his life. He was lucky if he could change the batteries in a flashlight and have it operate correctly.

For some, the service manual is proof that they shouldn't attempt the big things. Kind of a wake up call. Even after all the engine builds I've done, there is lots I won't do. Like set up a crank...

I gotta agree with you 100%.

Brad

I usually figure "well, I can't afford to bring it in, so I might as well try. Worst case is I mess it all up, but either way my bike is down..." Usually I surprise myself by what I can accomplish with a few decent tools, my service manuals and the right parts!
