Hello all, this is my first post on old school, Any how I have a 2000 S3 that I’ve owned for about three years and I want do the XB rocker cover conversion but I read that there are clearance issues with the pcv valve on the rear cover with the fuel tank, so I cut a ¼ inch section out of the center and rejoined the top and bottom sections using ABS cement I also reinstall the gauze breather material. Also did you guys know that there are umbrella valves in the top portion of these breathers? It’s amazing what you find when you take something apart, I hope my pics aren’t too large to attach. John

I've often wondered about that. My tank makes contact with the rear rockerbox when the engine vibrates -just-so-. It wore a bit of the rockerbox away...didn't seem to hurt the tank. I added a bit of a spacer under the rear tank mount. Seems to have given me a bit more clearance. Cutting down the breather might just give me the room I'd need to do an XB rocker box conversion.

The S2 guys have found an alternate solution to this (which I plan to do on my next S2), which is to use 2 front XB rocker covers, which gives plenty of clearance ; ).

Did any one notice that the end that sticks into the grommet is a OIL/AIR SEPARATOR ???

That's a cool mod John, funny screen name.

Thanks for posting that up. A much easier and less expensive solution to replacing the (XB) rocker box cover I've already got.

Mine has the '04 later H-D XL style rocker box on the rear, which is similar to the XB save for the breather being internal. It has no air/oil separator, but is located in a better place within the rocker box. The XB breather seems to spring a leak from the grommet once every several thousand miles.
