Not quite.

Factory tools are for the technician that's busting his hump to break flatrate so he can buy shoes for his kids, without damaging expensive parts. His machanical ability is not necessarily compromised by using factory tools.

Mechanical improvisation is for those who are willing to risk breaking parts in order to get the job done.

Or some would say, "work smarter, not harder".

A lot of BUELLers do not want to take their BUELLs to a H-D DEALER, wonder why ...

Do my own work and that is why "i" have 109,451.2 miles as of the last ride ...

Jas51700 know where you are coming from as "i" was in your position in the 1960's ...

If you have the Horse Power to pull the taller B12X motor it will drop the cruse'ing RPM's on the Interstate at
70-80 MPR where BUELLs run the best ....

Put a XB12X motor sprocket on my BLAST so it could run 70-80 MPR on the Interstate with out sounding like a METRIC BIKE ...

'istic,

ah, I see - thx for detailed response

my Terry Parsley-spec'd 90-inch M2 makes 40mpg with 100hp/100lbs-ft -
is this tooth mod appropriate for my power level?

what's tooth-count difference between XL-M2 & XB9/12 sprockets?
additional XB tooth-counts available?

i think your sposed to stay away from the '03 gears irrc...

its a 10-11% increase in gearing. i figured with the engine mods ive done it wouldnt phase me to have the thing geared 10% higher. plus maybe ill get a few mpg while doing routine maintenance ;P clutch should feel better now too since i added an extra friction plate

im on ported xb heads and slightly raised compression.

i still need to ditch the stock s1 cams and at least get the late model cams, 585 is what i really want tho!
