I have to make confession; there is one thing I don't like about my X1 and it is the amount of wind on my chest and face at any speed higher than say 60 mph. Even on days without any (head) wind, I find the amount of wind against me too straining after a 15-20 minute ride. I'm thinking maybe the combination of my height (6'2") and the location and angle of the flyscreen and the stock bar make up a geometry which directs the air right to my face. I moved the flyscreen/light assembly up and down a little but the effects were minute. Do you guys with similar height feel the same way? Do you guys lay down on the tank at highway speeds?
I'm just trying to find out if this is normal and/or there is a way to make it a little better.

Seriously tho...not the bike if you're looking for wind protection. I've done 500 miles days without issue, but it does tire you out a bit.

Heck, I don't even have the flyscreen on anymore!

I am gonna ride without the flyscreen tomorrow and see what happens but a tight fitting riding jacket makes the biggest positive difference.

I'm 6'1", X1. I don't have a problem with
the wind protection provided by the stock screen, as there isn't any!It's something you either enjoy or endure. Several aftermarket screens will fit the X1. Givi offer a range if these would be of any help.

Fantastic point, and one I had not thought of since I always have worn a well fitted leather jacket on this bike.

A good helmet makes a big difference too. My old cheapie had a lot of drag and was quite turbulent. My current Shoei RF-1000 is much smoother and cuts through the air. It was a huge improvement especially at speeds over 70 or so.

I tried raising the headlight clamps that attach to the forks - moved them all the way to touching the top triple clamp. didn't improve anything.

Tried moving them all the way down to touching the lower triple clamp and there's a noticeable difference. Still a lot of wind of course, but it isn't as turbulent. The curves in the windscreen aren't designed for your comfort so get them away from you.

third thing I tried was drinking an 8 oz. can of HTFU before each ride. I've found this to work even better than adjusting the windscreen height : )

For comparison as I am neither 6'3" (5'10"), nor do I ride the X1 (but I've got the front end of one)...

I put the X1 dash and windscreen on my bike when I added the tach as it is taller than the M2's screen and I like the asymmetry of the X1's and S1's screens. I found it pushed the wind from my stomach to my chest level and made freeway riding a bit more comfortable.

Putting a flyscreen on my old GS500 had a similar effect.

It seems like the race screen was a bit taller, if there are any still floating around and they are taller you could trace the headlight and cut that section out, then use some door trim from the local car parts store for the trim around the headlight. You'd want to paint it too as they were all white.

Appreciate all the inputs. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to experiment this morning but I'll try what Phil suggested and lower the windscreen assembly as far as it goes and see what happens.
