Just noticed a front rocker gasket leaking oil. I recently installed a new intake and routed the breather tube to the ground and changed the engine oil. I am thinking the gasket is leaking for one of three reasons.
1. Bad gasket, time to change. The bike only has 4,200 miles.
2. Too much oil. (Measures fine.)
3. The long breather tube is not letting the engine breath enough and is building up pressure.
Maybe after the bike gets the oil to where it wants it the leak will stop? Anyone have a similar experience? Maybe time to upgrade to the XB boxes but they still will require a long breather tube....

Did you change the gasket from the stock one to the updated gasket (NOT THE XB ROCKER COVERS) that doesn't leak?
Just go to the dealer, tell them you need a rocker box gasket for your bike, they should give you the updated metal one.

All stock rocker box gaskets will leak at some point as they are paper. The new ones are metal with a coating....

So, do yourself a favor if you haven't and DO THEM BOTH. It's only a matter of time until the other one goes...

I'sd say 4200 miles and 10 years without having to change the bad gaskets that came on the bike makes you a lucky man. I'm not the most mechanically inclined member here -- but my buddy and I were able to change both in an afternoon and evening -- we even had time for a few cold ones when we were thru --

Brinnutz- AFAIN the gaskets are the OEM ones, not sure what the original owner did. If I have to fix the front one I will update both to the XB version.
Brokeneck - a free evening seems really hard to come by these days sadly enough. Hopefully it is an issue from overfilling and I can buy myself a little more time before the wrenches have to be turned!

G,
PM me...I got some info you might be interested in what I've got.

You don't need to do the XB conversion unless you want to...

I doubt it's an overfilling issue -- the longer tube may have caused a little pressure but I'll bet once a leak has begun it won't stop until you replace the gasket. There is no need to go to the XBs --Buell has an updated non-paper version of the gaskets -- cost was around $12.00 --

I thought the XB boxes were better because they were more effeceint at letting the oil drain back into the engine and not spewing it out?

Yeah, that's true...

But if you want to do it, go right ahead, we were just letting you know that you didn't "have" to spend algl the money just to fix the leak.
