While riding, I took a nice left and gunned it. My rear tire stepped out a bit and the world was good. Directly after, I hit a red light. Not so good but okay, plenty of turns ahead. Until that is, the light turned green and as I let out the clutch, absolutely nothing happened! CRAP!! Change gears, nothing, change again, nothing. Work through all the gears, nothing! Push my bike to the side and call a tow truck. Clutch must have gone out. I'd have thought it would have been a little more gradual, hmmm, transmission? Get home, I have a neutral light so the tranny is shifting. HAS to be the clutch. Should I check badweb just in case? Nawwww, I got this! Pulled the clutch and spent $300 or so including shipping and my new clutch pack and compression tool arrives. Assemble the tool and put it on my clutch and POW! Off comes the snap ring keeper from the compression plate! Luckily the snap ring for the clutch spring is still there, it was the keeper for the adjuster. Okay, new pressure plate, only $55.00 not bad. Pull the clutch plates out and put in the nice and shiny new heavy duty plates and spring. (Ya, didn't bother to mic em, they HAVE to be bad) Slap the clutch back on the bike and just before battening down all the hatches, let's give it a little push while in gear to make sure things are working..... Dang it! Still acts as if I have no clutch! Okay, to badweb I go and stumble on this thread http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/194245.html?1147096156. Hmmm interesting, pull off the transmission sprocket cover and what do I see??? Metal dust and a broken lock plate! I'm guessing it'll cost me $25 or so. Doh! Next time, I'm checking badweb before ANY wrenching! |
