Arvel:
Really, you don't even know your own colors!! It is probably Canyon red since I know JB2's S2 was canyon red. Don't get me wrong, but I know 99' was a limited production year for Spark Red and I don't know for sure if it was offered in 98' (someone help me here....)It is definately not Snap red. So update your profile and then breathe easy.

Geez, guys, sorry to start such a controversy!! :)

I think I found my answer (until someone tells me I'm wrong or (PUHLEEZE) confirms I'm right)!! I found a Harley website with some archived info, and according to it, my '98 S1 is INDEED Spark Red...

The website is www.buelltoronto.com/buell/buell.asp

(Sorry, Arvel, it only goes back to '98 :( )

Thanks for everyone's input!

If it is original paint you have the answer, Spark Red. I am sure that this is a rare scheme of color. Now show us some pictures.

According to the 98 Brochure Red Snap was used on the M2 & Spark Red on S1 & S3's. However there may have been some mid-year production variances.

I believe Canyon Red & Spark Red use the same red color coat but the difference is Canyon uses a gold base and Spark uses silver (based on chipped paint observations with a friend's 97 S3 & my 98). Jeff J are you lurkin'?

I'd bet my 2 back teeth that that sweet li'l S1 is Spark Red (nice picture too). So now, what are you going to do to personalize it?? Exhaust, polished wheels, flames, chopped rear fender, relocate license plate, different turn signals, polished header, painted breadbox........

The sky's the limit.

Life is never so simple nor easy.
Ah, for the days when black was black, and white was white, and paint colors were all just berry juice and minerals.

hmmm, me thinks it might be time for sleep.

Yep, Carbon Black. I think it has a tinge of grey in it, sort of a silvery ghostly hint of grey. Shows up in bright sunlight, I think (it's been several months since there's been any bright sunlight around here).

I think I'd better turn off the oldies radio station now. :)

Mike:

Your bike, an S1 (not an S1WL) was built on 12/1/97 with Castallot Wheels and a MPH speedo.

The R is just.....well, RED. I have to asssume that this was the SPARK RED.

The only "tidbit" on your bike is that it started to one place and was reconsigned on 12/7/97.

You know the bike I'd like to find is 4MZSS11J7W3200019. . . now THAT's a bike!

Your bike, correct me if I am wrong, shoudl be a PRISTINE example of one of the better Buells ever made.

Court:

Thanks for the info on my bike. Having stated previously on this board that I am "Buell-ignorant", you are talking about things at a level above my comprehension...

Can you clue me in...What is the significance of the vin number you posted, and what makes my bike "a pristine example of one of the better Buells ever made"??

(Remember, you're talkin' to a dummy here) :)

Mike:

The VIN I posted was the "green bike" that many will remember traveling about the show circuit that year. It came off the line with special pegs, exhaust, chain and sprocket. . . the WORKS.

You bike, pardon the expression, is a "plain jane" 1998 Buell S-1. These bikes were fun and well dialed in. On the Buell Hassle-ometer scale the 1996-1998 S-1 are about a 2.7.

Gotcha...

She IS a great-looking bike, and I took my first ride last Friday. All I had to say was WOW!! I test-rode an identical bike, right down to the (dare I say it, Spark) red paint at Harley's 95th three years ago, and lusted after one ever since. I found a great deal on this one five weeks ago, and the rest, as they say, is history.

I never heard of this "green bike" (shocker there), and I'm sure I'll be learning plenty about Buells over the course of time, thanks to this board and my never-ending series of questions. Thanks again for the info.

I'd like to replace the ugly tail light / licence plate / turn signal support plastic section of my 2000 M2 Cyclone. I've been looking around for a supplier of a neat aftermarket part; without success. I'd hate to cut it myself with an "only one try" approach... ASB has something in his catalog but only for X1. Any recommendation ?

Anyone have a chin fairing on an M2? I like the look of them on the X1 and have been toying with the idea. Can you mount them on an M2? Any comments or suggestions appreciated. :)

Thanks in advance

Anyone tried to adapt or directly mount any other body work to the rear of an S3 (97)? Or any other body work anywhere on the bike for that matter.

I am thinking about changing the look of my scooter. Without cutting the existing body.

Any thoughts

Thanks. Trav

Hi Ho. Hey, I was wondering if anyone is having tiny little 'bubbles' showing up in the finish? I have a 2000 S3 in Carbon Black with a Nuc Blue frame. These little pinpoint to pencil point size bubbles are appearing on all of the plastic bodywork. I have only used a Harley branded spray cleaner-polish on her, and it's spreading. The areas are about 2x3" now. Anywho, has anyone else seen this? Does Buell "fix" this situation? New bodywork? Any info will be a delight...

Galen,
Are the bubbles only on the gas tank, or are they on all the plastic parts? I've got a couple of spare gas tanks I picked up to play with that have the bubbled decals, but don't know if your problems are due to porous plastic on the gas tank, or due to a problem with the paint prep.

That's a new one on me. Make your authroized Buell dealer aware. He, in turn, will consult the Buell BZM (Buell Zone Manager) who should be able to promptly resolve the problem.

Questions on paint and warranty.
- Under my seat up on the gas tank and a few other places on the bodywork, the paint is gone and it looks white underneath (where I guess the seat rubs). No big deal with the seat on, but is this normal to have that much seat wear on a body part (the tank is the worst)? Will it spread eventually so you can see it with the seat on? Only 7000 miles (7 months) and the spots are definitely bigger. Is anybody else seeing this? Is this worthly of a new tank (or is it no big deal) or is this just how the bike will look (live with it)? What are you guys doing?
- Second question, some goon put a 1/8" size nick in my rear body panel, any good fills or "paint pencil" type deals out there that work? Paint is carbon black and looks easy to match.
thanks as always, TD

Tonyinvabeach:
I too have noticed that the seat rubs the tank were it's not visible until the seat is removed my answer to this problem was to get the tank mask. The mask attaches in such a way that the seat will rub the mask instead of the paint.

http://www.buell.com/products/accessories_main.asp
If the link above didn't take you directly to the tank mask go manually by www.buell.com click products click accessories click bags.

Check out the paint codes on the top of the bulletin and at this web link http://www.sporttwin.com/paint.html

Hi Court. Seen your name a few million times here! Yea these little bubbles are on all pieces of my bodywork. On the tail near the light, both sides below the seat, the fairing, the front fender. Hmmm, I just checked, and there are none on the tank. Does "Buell authorized dealer" mean the creeps I bought my bike from? I can't imagine them helping me much! I was a bright-eye'd naive
'cycle rider when I walked into my local dealer last summer. I'm a wild -eye'd cynical Buell owner now. I wouldn't trust the management there to do the right thing if their money depended on it! And they don't realise that it does!
Opps, I just fell off my soapbox and back to earth...later.
