Jim- While you're working on it, get a voltmeter! See FB's slick setup where he mounted a voltmeter in the gage cluster. I used the same type meter (single multi-color LED display) but just mounted it in the gage surround. Much better to have some indication of a problem before your battery is stone-dead in the middle of nowhere.

Hugh, I've contemplated that, but the "mount it in the gage surround" part worries me. I don't want to take the instrument panel apart, I'm bad at getting things back together. : )

I have considered building one inside a cigg-lighter plug, and just sticking it into the accessory outlet.

I'm probably not describing my mounting location very well. I didn't want to disassemble the gages either. I mounted the indicator LED in the aluminum casting that the fairing panel screws to (the dashboard?), just above the tachometer. All I had to drill was one ~1/8" hole. The control box measures ~2" x 1" x 1/2" and attaches to the inside with double-backed tape. I tied the leads into the cigarette lighter power in the dash. It's a pretty nifty device.

WOW! Hey all you C3'ers out there that I had a chance to speak with at Suches... You guys Rock! really!

I wish we could have ridden together more then just that little chase scene on Richard Russell, but you know the way the weekend went.

But I'm glad to hear everyone made it home safe... oh... and here is a merchandise suggestion... a Tee shirt with the title:

"Kristi and the Uly Bunch" (...in the spirit of Wheelie and the Chopper bunch) I've never seen so many Ulys in one spot!!!

Really tho thanks for the love guys! it was fun...expensive! but fun!

Mel - On Sunday morning, FB, JimDuncan69 and I passed you guys on Wolf Pen Gap and I thought the same thing. That is the way the weekend went for me anyway. I had fun, but spent a good part of the weekend dealing with adventures not planned.

On Friday morning Jeff and I decided to ride some gravel roads to warm up the bikes and ended up with a rock puncturing the rear tire. What we found was washed out sections of rocks which I took with caution because I have learned that Pirelli tires have thin skin and puncture easily. I like the Syncs but if I am going to continue to ride off pavement they have to go. Out of the five rear Pirelli tires I have had on the Uly (two Stradas and three Syncs), three have been replaced because of damage. In comparison, all the Dunlops I have had on my three bikes now and past, I have only had two flats both because of nails. This time the inside of the tire was much worse than the outside. I tried plugging the rear tire, but with the belts broken the plugs would push out. After three plugs and help from Mountain Rider, I put on my back up rear skin on the bike but by then the day was over.

I saw you guys Saturday morning then we went out on a sedate couples ride to Helen. I was riding with most of my thoughts on Vern's wife behind me. She did a great job on those very technical roads, but I have had two people have get-offs following me in the past so I was very cautious. DJ Kaplan and Webe, the single guys, passed me and went off to enjoy their own rides. Unfortunately we rode up on a group of bikes on the side of the road and first thing I saw was DJ's bike getting pushed out of the ditch. We stopped and since DJ was up there alone Kristi and I wanted to make sure rider and bike were taken care of. Old Dog and Guell took off for truck and trailer as Webe and I stayed with the bike. As we waited Barker and Jlnance came by and stopped. The fun was riding with Barker down Richard Russell on the way back to TWO. I also was able to hook up with the South Carolina guys late in the afternoon after the Demo RC8 wrecked and closed down demos. Those guys were a lot of fun.

Sunday morning I took a lap with FB and JimDuncan69. At the end of the lap they headed out to Gixxer Corner but I decided to stay at TWO and see if I could get a demo in. Nope, too late for the planned departure so I decided to ride to Gixxer Corner. On the way the reserve light turned on. My back up fuel went to MiketheBike72 and Not Dales was out of gas. So I tried to make it to Gixxer Corner but 12 miles passed the Cabin I thought I better turn around. I had my fill of standing on the side of the road this weekend. The ride down GA-60 was a great but by the time I got back to the cabin the front tire was slick and I had 28 miles on reserve. I was done for the weekend.

So Mel it was not meant to be this time, but we need to get together closer to home and ride. I have my hand full the next few weeks but maybe Webe and I can break out on weekend and head up your way.

By the way thanks Mel, your 10,000! A little milestone of this Storm Front. Only the second Storm front to reach it. We C3'ers are all linked by phone and e-mails these days so our posting is down. One thing that I posted earlier and Kristi mentioned on the way home from Suches, we C3'ers need a gathering, maybe in November. A C3 dinner somewhere in the middle of the state so it's centrally located.

Carlos- I just wanted to say thanks (again!) to you guys for letting us hang with you for the event. I can't imagine a nicer bunch of folks to hang out with. I wish we had more excuses to meet.

That was a good ride we had Saturday afternoon, especially up 129 and the first section of 180. I have definitely come to prefer riding the "loop" counter-clockwise.

If you don't mind the SC guys coming up, please let us know if you have a meet next month. Mid-NC is ~100 miles closer to us than Suches.

Jim,

You can actually buy a plug-in monitoring device from the local AutoZone for <$15.00 that'd work on your motorcycle wanders.

I believe I'll be over there Saturday if you need any help, or tools, or just someone to sit by and make of fun of you ; )

Carlos and Kristi- thanks again for letting us stay with yall. You really do put on a great event.

Wish i could have gotten in more riding with you guys but it wasnt meant to be this time.

Maybe we could have a dual meet type deal with the sc and nc guys meeting at ceasers head? Sometime next year?

Kristi and Carlos

Great seeing you again, If I was not so selfish with the KTM demos I would have loved to go riding with the C3 gang.

Webe

Good to meet you, but when you make it up north you got to bring some PBandJ

those are some great roads at Suchess which demand total respect. I will return not just for the riding but very much for the comraderie. C3, 3% and all, not better people can be found.

Hey guys, amazing how quickly things can turn from amazingly good to amazingly bad.

I got home last night after work (still pretty tired from the long ride back Sunday). About the time I'd finished supper, the phone rang, my Mom's next door neighbor was at her house. Mama had evidently fallen, had a huge knot on her head, and was very nauseated. I grabbed Marianne and jumped in the car to head ~65 miles to Mom's house. Before we got there the neighbor decided Mama was getting worse and called the ambulance. We spent ~4 hours in the emergency room near home. Mom was conscious and semi-lucid, but the catscan showed a skull fracture and bleeding. They sedated her and put her on a ventilator. She was medevac'ed down to MUSC in Charleston (~20 miles from where I live) about 1 AM. I got home at 2 AM. Got up this morning and headed down to MUSC and spent the day sitting with her but she's still sedated. They say the plan is to watch and wait for a few days and see how she responds. She's 89 years old so this is pretty serious deal.

Thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. I guess the Lord provided 4 great days of companionship and riding to get us ready for this...

Sportymark,

Good luck on finding anything online. That is unless you have a way of converting the raw footage I have of the different takes of that commercial on VHS into some format that can be put/viewed online. I don't think I was ever able to capture the actual commercial, but the takes that I do have are a quite interesting insight into TV commercial production.

Hell, I got a fairly decent amount of Buell video footage that I'd like to get into some digital/electronic medium. Mainly to ensure that it doesn't get lost/destroyed. I think I had posted before about this but don't think a serious opportunity ever presented itself.

Anyone got any ideas?
