Hi all, I have just fitted a pro series race pie( thanks Sammings) and race ECM and K&N(thanks John3k) and was going to get the TPS reset as my next step however having run the bike there is no coughing or spluttering, it idles fine, there is no backfiring. The throttle response around the 3000 to 4000rpm mark is slightly more sluggish than stock however hit 5000rpm and it takes off! So, I am of the mind to just leave it as is without the reset but would welcome any opinion you might have. Cheers

It is rather unlikely that the TPS is correctly set, but I guess it could happen. My bike would not run at all when I put in the Race ECM, so I didn't have much choice. I would ride it down to the Harley place and do a reset. Usually costs about $35 or so. That way you will know your engine is running properly, otherwise you are just guessing. If you have guessed wrong...........

Jon...I haven't touched the TPS at all, its just seems to be running great with the race ECM on. My local dealer is wanting £47 plus vat(tax) just to reset the TPS, thats about $114US. For that reason alone I think it will be worth leaving it, my only concern is will it do any long term damage to the engine?

Interesting...

My guess is that it's entirely possible to get lucky and get an ECM that happens to be set properly for your zero. $114 is a good deal of money...

If it were mine I would ride it to a dealer that will treat you right and has a more "normal" TPS reset price and get it reset... I wouldn't want to take any chances like that myself. Quite frankly... It would probably be fine to run it as long as it seems to run fine. The engine light theoretically should come on if anything is far enough outta whack. The reason I recommend doing the reset once you find the price you need is because I've spent a week w/o my bike before and it REALLY sucks. I would imagine that if running the bike w/o a reset turned out to be a bad decision... The bike would be down far longer than a week.

Ran just like that on mine. Quick dip around the 4000, but hold on when I hit 4500! Sounds like it fits your bike the same as mine. I personally wouldn't bother with the TPS if it runs that well.

Don't suppose the Techlusion combined with the race ECM is a good combo?

Sure is! That's whats I run. Go look in the "Huge Techlusion Problem" thread (the subject is a joke, but the content is not.)

Runs like a scalded cat.

I'd sure like to see a comparative Dyno test of race kit and race kit with techlusion. Anyone got one?

I thought my tps was set correctly when I installed my race ecm. Same story as you exup, and I never bothered to have it reset.

When I got my technoresearch goody I did the tps reset and it made a definite difference in performance.

I'm not saying it's going to be the same for you, but if it doesn't help it sure won't hurt.

Ingemar.

Odie is coming over on Saturday for his dyno. He's got an XB12S with his self-modded pipe, cut up air box, and Techlusion. I'll have mine done as soon as I get mine. Maybe he'll chime in here soon.

I'd like to see a before and after on a race kitted bike. A self modded pipe renders the comparative result not useful except for those with identical self-modded pipes.

Will certainly be interested to see Odie's results for his home brew pipe though. : )

He'll have his stock pipe with him.
He's planning on getting them both done if time permits.
I hope time permits.

Gent Jon and Blake, as Glitch stated, I will be in Atlanta with him on Saturday for some dyno time. My Techlusion went in well and performs great with the exception of a low speed, on/off throttle stumble. I wouldn't think the TPS would need reset but if Stone Mountain H-D can squeeze me in that morning I am going to get it reset. Hopefully that will fix the problem. No one else has had this problem that I've heard of so I will assume that is it.
If time does permit I would like to run it with my stock pipe but we'll see. I'm driving 3 hours there and then 3 back so when I get home that evening I will post all the info and numbers for all to see. I hope it makes some good, solid numbers....Later....Odie

See if you can get a copy of the data files on disk or at least a jpg of the final plots superimposed on each other. Good luck. : )

Yea, I'm going to take a blank cd and a floppy so I can grab all the data for future use. Hopefully all turns out well...Odie
