Just wondering if anyone has had this problem ? It only happens when you get on the throttle from a cruising speed. It sounds like a bad gas clattering sound but if you stay on the throttle it goes away as the rpm climbs. It happens in all gears and is more prevelant when the motor temp is up to normal (fan is not on) so i know its not too hot.Its not the normal valve sound of an h-d motor..........More like a bad gas sound in a car. i have changed gas stations and always run a 93 octane. It has a race kit , but it has recently started doing this. Any suggestions?

Yeah, sounds like a ping to me.

I'm not sure what solves the issue, I think some solved it using the techlusion tfi box.

Search the archives.

They only ping when it's really hot. If a "bad gas sound" means pinging, then you'll have to completely empty the tank and refill with good gas to be sure it's bad gas. A bit of bad gas mixed with good gas equals bad gas in my experience.

My 2004 XB12R makes the exact same type of pinging noise. It drives me nucking futs! Has anyone been able to resolve this issue? I would like to take a solution to my stealer and force him to fix it. The mechanic who took my bike for a test ride came back and said "duh, I don't hear nuthin......"
