So I finally got my bike together after the last three months of saving and wrenchin. Now my bike is running like garbage, its sputterin in every gear has no power. It seems like its suffocating, I already tried a manual tps reset, the one where you turn the key and hit throtle open and closed three times. That didnt fix it, I took off my airbox cover and just ran it open and that seemed like it made it WORSE!!! What the hell is wrong with my 2008 xb12s. If anyone has any info, I am definetly not to proud to take some good advice. Thanks folks, I am really pulling my hair out, considerin i just did about 1600 bucks in repairs and STILL CANT RIDE MY M%e#%$^$^67F^#KING BIKE!!!!

all repairs were cosmetic, handlebars, front brakes, new plastics, had to rework the rear sub frame, nothing mechanical with the engine

From the limited description, It sounds like you may have fouled a plug.

Does is sound like a lawnmower?

Try this,

Turn the kill switch off, turn the key on, open the throttle all the way and hold it. Then flip your kill switch to on. Your plugs will fire off and burn off any fuel. This should cure your problem if your plugs are fouled.

Then just turn the key off and back on and start it..

check the levels of your battery. i had the same thing and it turned out to be a bad battery. not even kidding.

yea it does sound like a lawnmower. ima check the plugs and battery today, thanks for the help i will post back and let you know what happened

Sounds like leak in exhaust/header.

That is where I would start.

if you had the sub frame off...check your grounds. it pays to go over it with a fine tooth comb after what sounds like a major tear down

When you put the new exhaust on your bike, did you use any high temp silicone to prevent any leaks where the exhaust meets the headers?

exhaust wouldnt cause this to happen, if its not the plugs or battery, then it might be some type of fuel delivery issue. I just got home from church and now am going to go work on it. I will get back to yall, thank you so so so much fella's

Of it sounds like a lawn mower you have a fouled plug.

"Clearing gas" will not fix it.

Go get a new set, replace and ride...

ok, I pulled plugs out. plugs are covered in black carbon, the plugs arent burnt up though. The plugs REEK OF GAS! I know they should smell like gas but you can smell gas from five feet away from my bike. So the only thing I can think of right now is AIR/FUEL RATIO WAY TOO RICH>? I need to get an ecm spy cable. I am not gona give harley traderson One more god dang penny of mine if I can help it.OH yea, I am also taking my exhaust can off and silcone where the header meets the pipe into the can.

Ok, before you go to the trouble of re-mapping the ecm I do have a question. When you fire the bike up are you touching the throttle? If you blip the throttle before the bike warms up the plugs will foul. The ecm takes care of all the fuel needs on start up. I push the start button and let the bike run until I hear both cylinders start to fire AND there is slight heat in the front valve cover before I touch the throttle. 12000 miles and zero fouled plugs.

As Spidey said, keep can on, no silicone, and put new plugs in.

i had the same problem, installed my spec. ops pipe and the bike ran like crap. i just went on about my business and installed the race ecm.... ran worse. finally found out that the rear header was loose...and then the front.

so.... check ur pipes.

My bike fouled plugs like crazy. I do exactly like I described above and have never had to change them since.

I know it sounds stupid, you can flip your ignition on a certain way and fire off your plugs to burn off any fuel and it will fire right up.

It only works on the 08+ bikes, but it's probably the best feature the ddfi3 bikes could come with since they're pretty finicky.

Chances are you only fouled the front plug. Replace it and start it. Don't rev it or blip the throttle.... it'll foul again. These bike don't like that when they are cold.

its more than likely from bad stale gas...3 months is a long time..drain as much out as you can get new stuff, and new plugs. i usually do a quick touch of the headers to make sure both cylinders are running and hot, once you foul a plug its been my experience to just get a new set, seems like they foul easier, that's why you smell gas and have wet plugs, that's what fouling is

Im just saying from snowmobiles, dirt bikes, my other street bike, and my jeep toy, it seems that bad stale gas makes em run , especially carbs and plugs, it builds a glaze on metals and tarnishes them. Moisture can really build inside of tanks and cylinders depending on how they are stored, I too live up North where my toys get parked for the winter or summer and early season fouling happens sometimes

...fortunately for me, my bike was under warranty, so the dealer will be doing the work. I have read it can be done if u just remove the fan, but don't have any first hand knowledge about it.
