Called all the local dealers and they all say that the part has been marked obsolete and they can't order it for me.

Tried both M2224.4A8AMW and M3224.

Also, M2224.4A8MCD and M3224.

Anyone know where I can grab one?

Heres a hint, try M1224.

2 and 3 are both accessory covers and are obsolete.

Where are you getting the parts numbers from Froggy, and why can't my local dealers figure this out? Also, thank you.

So, anything that does not have a direct fit part number (as seen in the various year/model parts catalog) is now obsolete?

I think it means if it was not a stock part on one of the different bikes it is no longer made.

like you can buy any body work the way it looked on a stock bike but the ones that was in the accessory catalogue that came without decals you cannot buy.

you can buy any seat for an lightning as long as it once came with a bike from the factory but not buy a select seat or something like that.

you can buy black or bare metal heel guards but no CF ones.

you can buy the stock hand grips but not the traction ones.

Am I correct in my analogy's?

I believe you are correct in your analogy's.

Support for ten years does mean stock parts will be available but not the accessory parts.

Tank bags, tail bags, saddle bags, carbon fiber, etc, once it's gone off the shelf will no longer be available.

FYI, when I ordered my "Kick Ash" cover, the dealer said it had been superseded by another part number, something called "Hercules". When it came in, it was considerably darker than Kick Ash... a nearly black smoke tint.

Pretty much. If it left the factory on a Bike, it should be obtainable. Most of the accessories are long gone, the only stuff listed on Buell.com that you could still get would be things like the Ulysses luggage, various color rims, 1125CR handlebar kits and so on.

I was bored a while back and tried to figure out how to decode the part numbers. Turns out, they aren't random numbers, and if you know what you are doing can guess part numbers and prevent the dealers from ordering the wrong one. I have on at least 5 occasions, corrected posted part numbers from dealer employees, because the part number given to the dealers was wrong.

froggy you have way to much time on your hands if you are trying to crack the codes to buell part numbers. But it is helpful that you did so. So thanks for doing so.
