I expect this topic has been flogged before, but checked the tech section and don't find anything; I'm getting low on the ol' wear indicators on the front pads on the '03 XB9R (5,200 mi) and wondering what people have found to be the best replacement - I don't want to go w/ something that'll eat up the rotor real quick. Anybody vote for the Lyndall pads? Thx.

Damn, I must be doing something wrong, I only got 22k out of my front pads.

Guess thats about right though took me 15k to realize that the thing came with brakes.

I got 3500 out of the fronts and 6000 from the rears. Im running SBS front pads, very good feel but im near thru them in 2500 miles, dont seem too harsh on the disc. Ive just fitted EBC rear pads and they feel the same as the standard pads did so happy.

I am doing my stock fronts just now for the first time @ 15,000 mile service. I think you guys should discover your rear brake! Try downshifting. : )

Keep in mind, this is my 4th set of tires though. I guess I make up for it elsewhere.

I had to replace mine at about 5k miles. I do alot of track days on my bike though. I used OEM replacements due to time constraints, if I think far enough ahead I may try the EBC's after I go through this set.

These things have a rear brake?

So get this! I went to my local dealer today, to buy some front brake pads.... they don't have them in stock! I was like, WTF? You sell these bikes right? Why don't you have the common parts to maintain them? The parts manager was really embarrassed. He got on the phone with their other store, they own 2 stores, guess what, they don't have them either. So I suggested that he call my local Brag chapter dealership. To my surprise, these guys don't carry them in stock either. SO he tried to call Bartells. Finally! They have 1 set. Asked them to overnight them. He promised me I would have them no later than Friday. I hope they will hold out till then.

If not, can I sue? : )

Hey FT

Depends on yer miles dunnit? I do 26+ miles a day of stop/start *hard* town riding you must have longer journeys of a more cruising nature? I have to say thought I do think I use my back brake more than anyone I know. ;oD

Oh yeah are you gettin HD/B pads? here in the UK the SBS and EBC pads are about 1/3 the price!

Stot - I am getting the only thing I can find to go in it! Yes, from HD / Buell. The Buell OEM pads. SBS / EBC? Where can I get them? It was hard enough to find the stock ones. HAd to go through 4 dealers before I could find them. I didn't even ride today because I was worried about them.

As for my riding, I mostly ride through the canyons, quickly, I try to avoid the brakes! I haven't tried doing a stoppie yet. I am sure my bike has it in her but I don't feel the need to do it. I do like doing wheelies though. No front braking involved in that though.

Do you drive like this guy?

Fst_tyms, you could get them from one of the dealers that sponsor this site. They are easy to work with and give a 10% discount that offsets shipping most of the time.

Thankx Dave! I already ordered the stock ones, but I'll check into it next time I am in need. I bet I can get them fast ordering them from UK, then going to my local Buell dealer : (

Sorry, yeah what Dave said. I got the SBS jobs from Trojan, work very well and are I believe sintered? Matt?

EBC ones should be available to order from most jap bike places and the rears should even be in stock as they are a Honda item.

Is EBC brakes a brand in America?

cool, I'll check into it more. I did find out that Cyclegear near me can also get them, but it takes a couple days. In case anyone else runs into the same problem I did, the dealers have their heads sooo far up their a$$ that they don't carry brake pads, or the belt and idler pulley that Buell says you have to change every 15,000 miles. I guess most people the go to a harley dealer don't actually ride their bikes. They just look at them.

When I was looking for front pads, my BRAG sponsoring dealer had 1 pair that they had sold the day before I walked in the door. Our chapter's dealer liason gave the Parts manager an earful right there on the spot.

I did tell them about the 15,000 mile idler pulley and belt change too. Would be kinda handy to have some basic service items in stock. Every bike in the dealership for a 10k service is gonna need a primary gasket and shaft seal too. I will do my best to order the parts well before I need them.

FWIW: I'm at 11,000 miles and I'm still on the original brake pads.

I just watched the madness.wmv and maybe I should get a camera mounted for my commute. My revs are not as high, but do the same stuff. I replaced my front pads with the OEM ones. That was about 11K miles.

My belt has the graying on the outside. Didn't know about the idler pulley replacement. That is actually in Bold Print in the Owner's Manual. Bubba, how much is that Idler Pulley?

I suggested to my local dealer that they start stocking those common parts too. The parts manager said he would. Lucky for me, the parts manager owns a Buell and is a member of Brag. So he takes care of me....kinda. Hopefully those pads will be in today. I have a lot of riding to do this weekend!

Well to update....I got the pads in as promised by Friday, and I changed them myself in the Hd / Buell parking lot. Even got compliments from their service guys on how quickly I got it done. It was cake! Ripped through the canyons @ lunch, did 75 miles during my lunch break. Damn those new pads feel good!
