I don't know to much about BMW's but to what my brother told me you can't take either one of his and just go get the oil changed.Your either going to the dealer or to a BMW Import shop to have it done. Can't even buy a filter for his 740 at some regular old run of the mill auto parts store.

Touchy subject, eh. Wonder why Hal's HD/BMC promotes Red Line Synthetics if it really is the HDI's Company Line. Especially since Erik is there quite frequently and one of his former line managers is the Head Buell Tech there.

Regardless, I don't fault Big Bird for his and/or his dealers position on the matter. Not to mention, it is quite possible that he actually never saw an oil pump/drive gear failure.

However, like I have said many times before, I use the information provided by the Knowledge Vault and the X1 Files for preventative maintenance concerning failure prone parts. Therefore, I have seen and heard about all the issues compliments of the World Wide Web.

Problem Bill is that BB acts like he has blinders on & repeats only what HD has told him. Comes in spouting off that synthetic oil use is forbidden by manufacturers & will deny coverage to anyone who uses it. Yet he offers zero proof to back this up & yet wants everyone else to offer proof showing the opposite is true.

Then he uses the condescending attitude & infers that anyone who doesnt subscribe to his theories has a reading comprehension problem. Bark back at him & he runs off & cries an email to Blake. Now he's on the other thread complaining about how he was treated like shit here. Its the internet, if he cant handle others having a different opinion & telling him it, perhaps he should just step back from the keyboard.

" Personally, I may start using the HD Synthetic. It costs the same as Mobil-1 V-Twin and..."

Blake, in Australia Mobil 1 V-Twin costs about $15 a quart, HD Syn costs $23/quart. Over here a workshop manual for the 2004 Lightnings costs $160, and a K&N filter is equally ridiculous. That's why I'm using the Mobil!
I think there is room for a private HD/Buell genuine parts importer in Australia...well I'm sure about that! One could buy stocks at BWB discount prices from the sponsors and still make money. Sad eh.

I pay right around the $6.50 area for the mobil 1 V-twin stuff & think thats still ridiculous.

I'm going to check on that at a couple of stores this week. Not saying you're wrong, just curious for my own interest.

YEP thats in Aussie dollars.
The market is tied up pretty tight by 1 importer in our region (where opto and myself reside)
They really have us by the short and curlies for anything we need.
My last belt was $400- plus labour.
And dont even dream about trying to negotiate on a new bike.
