So, I am removing my wheels to get tires mounted tomorrow and I have a couple questions:

1. I removed the front rotor, so the machine can clamp the wheel, is it necessary to replace the hardware, or can I safely reuse them?

2. Do I need to also remove the rear sprocket and/or rear rotor?

3. Can I safely reuse the rear hardware, if I need to remove them?

I do intend to replace the hardware, but not sure if the dealership has it all in stock, guess I should have planned ahead.

On another note, I came home from work tonight to get started removing the wheels, and after a nice burnout to finish off the rear, I pulled the bike into the garage to find a nice sheetmetal screw dead center in the front tire.

After 9500 miles I picked up my first flat, 15 minutes before I removed the wheel to replace the tires, isn't that ironic, don't you think?

You need to leave both rotors and sprocket on the rims so they can be balanced as an assembly. Put the front rotor back on before taking them in to be mounted. IMO, you should replace the removed hardware on the front rotor...but some have R&Rd it without replacing. YMMV

Are you serious, I just removed it for no reason? Is this a fact, for all bike shops? I thought I heard that they can't get it on the machine with the inverted rotor.

Any Buell dealer should be able to do it. I wouldn't take it to one that can't- you wouldn't be getting the entire rotating mass balanced without it.

I just recently swapped my tires- I had some of the same questions and assumptions that you did, fortunately I asked before I did anything! :-p

Read here, the community gave some good advice:

Not every machine can work with the Buell rotor. If your shop is one of the few that can't, then get a machine and do it yourself or get it done elsewhere.

I was going to take them to cycle gear, and spend 60, but I am feeling a little rough spot in my front bearings, so I guess I will just have to take them to the dealership and have the bearings checked while I fork out 100 for the mounting.

The rear bearings are packed so tight with grease that I can't even spin them with my bare hands, I didn't expect that.

Wow, the hardware is expensive. I think that the torx bolts are probably the only important parts to replace? Washers and bushings are just spacers.

Has nobody heard of http://www.innovativebalancing.com/? Or do people like to make things more complicated than they have to be and spend more money.

Dynabeads came up in another thread recently, using basic physics it was debunked as bogus.

IMO the spacers & springs are more important to change than the bolts. Your rotor needs to float. Just me opinion though.

Rotors and sprocket are cnc machined. Id guess in most applications they could stay off the rims during balancing. Iam guessing though.

CNC machined or not...balance the "entire" wheel assembly, rotors, pulleys, all fasteners...everything..."assembled.

I just had a set of tires mounted on some older equipment with no problem. Front on one and rear on the other...they were busy!

Totally uncalled for. Please re-read the Badweb rules:

I'm running dyan beads. Do they work? Well I run equal in my work truck tires and that is on the same idea. I mounted my own tires, I lined up the dot, I run no wheel weights and I have no vibration. Is it the bast? I don't know but the lack of good shops that will mount and balance tires here in NY is huge so I go this route

Wow barnyard! That is a great spectacle of douche baggery at its finest! Totally uncalled for. My apologies for offending you by asking a couple quick legitamate questions. I think everyone just got a good read on how bright you are by your negative comments.

Anyways, got everything taken care of, threw on new bolts and took it to cycle gear, the guy mounted and balanced on the spot in 20 minutes. No nicks, no problems. Took the 40 I saved from not getting the mounting done at the dealership and bought new summer gloves. Now that I got new tread, I get to go back up Suches this weekend for the 3rd time this month.

Thanks for the quick answers in my rush to get everything done for this weekend.}

Great, congrats on saving money by doing your own work! Tis very satisfying, no? : )

Maybe we should cut him some slack, perhaps he's a foreigner, maybe from Douchbagistan?
