It is against the dealer agreement with HD/Buell corporate to sell new bikes on Ebay. They are in violation of this rule(and yes I have just reported it to the factory, this type of activity really pisses me off). I happen to agree with this as it turns the bike business into a "who's the biggest whore" contest. There is more, alot more, to buying a bike than the lowest price. I will not stoop to this level as many dealers have. I prefer to give my customers the full "Dave" treatment when they are buying a bike. It works, the customers like it, the factory likes it,my dealer likes it, I like it. It has NEVER been my goal to be the cheapest, just the best, thank you. Ride to the edge! And that is exactly what I was referring to in the "terms and deal" aspect of the comment. Your's and Bubba's customer personal service is part of the deal, the raw end cost is mostly secondary since you two give "fair" deals. Bargain basement stuff is often dusty and full of fleas. Keep up the good work. |

Some buyers put little to no value on "personal service" whether it's the "Dave" treatment or "Bubba" way. Most customers do(notice that one is a buyer, the other is a customer). They sell them cheap,on Ebay, however they can think up, yet I outsell them probably 3-4 to 1. I wonder why that is? They probably wonder why also. Do they ride Buells? Do they have a BRAG club? (NO) Do they sponsor and arrange track days? (NO) Do they stock parts? Do they have factory trained Buell techs? Have they ever crashed a Buell? Do they sponsor fine boards such as Badweb? (NO) Do they have a "Buell guy"(or gal)? Are they really in the Buell biz? What, exactly, do they do to be worthy of a Buellers dollars? Ride to the edge! Hey there's nothing wrong with getting a good deal from your dealer. As mentioned elsewhere on 'Ye Ole BadWeb' I got a great deal on my 'Bolt new out of the box, etc. etc. etc. I think that REAL dealers, like Brian, Dave and a few others can sell the bikes at reasonable prices without hammering the customer, still give great service and make the whole process a positive introduction (or re-intro) to Buell. Now if all the dealers out there understood this, Buells would be practically flying out of the showrooms.. not sitting in corners collecting dust. This dealer obviously doesn't understand how to sell a bike without $3,000 worth of chrome and bags and such. So is trying this tactic. I hope Buell/H-D kicks 'em where it hurts most. Hell, with all the great roads around here, we still have a 'Buell' dealer that tries to move people to 'real' motorcycles.. even when you walk in and ask for them by name... Sheesshh... Talk about not understanding your product.. Later, |

and a $399.00 Used Bike Certification fee on Harley- Davidson Models (This is a total bike inspection performed to guarantee the excellence of the motorcycle). Dave could that be how they are getting around the "not allowed to sell new bikes on ebay" clause? In essence the dealer is claiming its a used bike. |

The problem is with places like our exampled dealer is this: Many, too many, H-D dealers don't know how to sell. On the H-D side of things, the typical sales dept generally only has to concern themselves with getting customers financed and sell some accessories, H-D's sell themselves. Further, Buells are the antithesis of what most dealers "sell". When I worked for a couple of H-D dealers, one "sales" tactic was to talk junk about competitors offerings or types of motorcycles other than heavyweight, V-twin cruisers. And sport bikes, "Aw-lawrd, y'all know them thangs are nuttin' but doner-cycles". Some very narrow views on all aspects of motorcycling. You know, everyone should want a Fat Boy with drag pipes, a S&S air cleaner(or better, if the dealer will honor the warranty, a S&S Super carb), every possible piece chromed, and every major cap and cover adorned with the cheesy "Live To Ride" eagle medalion stuck on it. In other words, they've had it so easy they don't have the skills or the vision to see that they have this great product that will attract new customers and create new sales. But, as stated here before, some of these dealers turn their noses up at "3% sales increases without trying, so how smart could they be? |

Yeah, a used bike with 0 miles? They are in violation of the policy, plain and simple. Yes, there are ways to get around it I guess, SWR the bike to an employee, then sell it on Ebay as a used bike. Just goes to show what kind of a dealer they are. They now own 4 dealerships too. I don't know why HD continues to let them buy up dealerships. They just bought another one, in Cherokee Iowa. Get more Buells on the road... I got my '04 Firebolt below MSRP, so what! That's not why I bought it, I nickeled them down. That's shopping for the best deal. 2004 will be the year of the Buell. Who cares how they enter the world... Get 'em out in the corners. I've seen 2 TV spots about the new Buells. The Internet is the next best tool to sell them/get the word out. Just my opinion. Don't bash me too hard... |

How can they ask for Used Bike Certification Fee and the Freight at the same time? Freight is added only on a new bike, right? Something doesn't sound right. I haven't done much selling at Ebay, but doesn't Ebay itself have policies against tacking charges? |

I visited that dealership for the first time last Saturday. Yes, there was a Buell sign outside, and yes there were 4 or 5 Buells in the showroom, but that was it. No evidence of any Buell apparel or accessories -- just another 100% H-D dealership. |

I'm sure those prices are C$ I have been to Deeley's. They have a nice place, and seem pretty dedicated to Buell. They even opened up a separate building just for their Buell products. I had the great pleasure of meeting Erik at their grand opening. If I remember correctly, the owner called Buell "the future of Harley Davidson". I think they "get it"

The Ebay auction you refer to is by Zylstra Harley, Ames Iowa. Deeley's House of Buell in Vancouver, BC is a 100% upright Buell dealer, on a plateau with Modesto. Stuart Wells, their manager is an active Buell rider and BRAG supporter. |

Ditto what Shotgun says. The prices are in Canadian dollars. With the exchange rate its still about 10% higher than Buckinfubba's price quote but that's generally the case for all prices in Canada. Your average Chevy or Toyota part that sells for US $169 will be Cdn$275 here. Just the extra cost that we're willing to pay to live in the best country this side of the Atlantic. From what I've read here, Deeley's is in the top three for quality of service anywhere. No affilation, yada, yada, except the pleasure of their good company when I drop in, their generousity with tech tips and helpful advice, etc. etc. edited by Sportyeric on February 07, 2004 |
