The big rubber X on my airbox started coming off so I decided to just peel it off. I used a blow dryer and some fishing line to get it off. Now I'm stuck with this mess. Please how do I fix it? Everything I try doesn't seem to work.

Have you tried Goo Gone yet? Pick it up at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. It's a little miracle in a bottle...but test it in an inconspicuous spot on the plastic first.

Spray it on, let it sit about 60 seconds, then wipe it off. May take a little elbow grease, but it works amazingly well.

"Everything I try doesn't seem to work."

What have you tried?

I use WD-40 for all my adhesive removal projects. Be careful around the 'Buell' badges, it will attack the adhesive under them if you just spray it all over.

is it a soft or really hard adhesive? when i removed my X i found what appeared to me to be super glue holding it on, it was very hard not flexible like a rubber based adhesive. it looked very much like yours. unfortunately the only solution i found was to wet sand the adhesive off and then wet sand the entire airbox to get it back clear again....

i wouldn't waste your time with putting different chemicals all over the box if it seems like the hard adhesive you may ruin the box all together.

let me know if i can help out

Hey Kevin - any interest in selling that rubber X? If you feel that you'll never use it than I'm extremely interested in buying it off of you. I'll even pay for the shipping to the Seattle area.
Let me know if you're interested in selling it!

Does anyone know what Buell charges for a new airbox cover?

If not too expensive?

Cant tell you, its not painted like a faired bike plastic but I know replacement plastics for my R6 are not cheap, even for just a small piece.

Just over $220.00 with the Buell stickers on it and $176.00 without. I just bought a new one myself for a project I'm working on.

Try denatured Alcohol, test it in like the corner or something first, but it usually works to remove most adhesives

The Buell plastics are cheap, I just get a new set every once in a while just to keep the bike fresh looking. My airbox is due for replacement.

WD40 always worked for me to remove glue.
Of course, I would test it first on a spot covered by the seat.

If it's hard glue you would probably need to soak it for an extended period.

I just found out one of my mounting holes is cracked. : (

It means sometime this year I am going to have to order another jolly rancher airbox.

Yes that means an X will go on the market.

I would just try some mineral spirits from the any hardware store, if that doesn't work than just buy a new one. They're not that expensive

The glue from what I could tell when I removed the X on the kick-ash cover was very hard. Almost like super glue. I couldn't find any kind of solvents to take it off. Ended up sanding it off with some mild sand paper and working my way down to very fine. Then finally polished it. I probably wouldn't do it again. Very time consuming.
